Other Games - NCAA Basketball version

Well, some things have happened the last few days

Duke barely survived on the road at FSU. We all knew that. Then Duke lost at home to Syracuse in OT 95-91, in game where Cam Reddish missed the game and Tre Jones (is that his real name? I thought there was a rule now where players had to be listed by their legal name. Tre is usually a nickname, whatever) got hurt and didn't play in a large portion of the game. Does this really mean that Duke is not #1? I don't know. Missing 2 of their starters probably affected the outcome of that game, but no one ever feels sorry for MIchigan when they have injuries.

Florida St went on the road and got soundly beaten at unkranked Pitt, 75-62

Kansas barely held off Texas @Kansas, 80-78

Nebraska pounded IU at IU, 66-51

Maryland beat Wisconsin at Maryland, 64-60. Wisconsin has lost 4 our their last 5 leading up to this Sunday's game against Michigan.

#4 Virginia remained undefeated, defeating #9 Virginia Tech, 81-59.

UNC beat Notre Dame, 75-69.

Huge trap game coming up for the undefeated Wolverines.

That said, should Michigan win on the road against a tough conference rival in a very tough place for the visiting team to win, there is no reason that our Wolverines should not be #1 next week.

I don't consider a game @UW to be a trap game. There is no reason for the team to not know this will be a tough test.

There will be some debate if they deserve to be #1 if they win, but if they don't, then they definitely won't be. Virginia and Tennessee both have good arguments.

I look at every conference road game as a trap game.

Michigan absolutely deserves to be ranked #1 if our guys win. Should that happen, will Michigan lose and drop out of the number one ranking at sometime this year? 99% chance yes that will happen. Michigan will probably lose in East Lansing, and probably sometime before that too.

But should be ranked #1 next week with a win.

And that would be cool, to have been ranked #1 at sometime during the season going into the post season.

This team thus far has vastly exceeded expectations.

We've had trouble winning at Kohl Center and Assembly Hall (the IU version, not the UI version). But that was during times we generally were not very good and both UW and IU were, so I am curious to see how we do over the next week. nothing would surprise me.

Well we did win there last year at least. The years before that not so well when they had their best teams. Kaminsky, Gasser, Koenig, Dekker, Nigel Hayes and those boys.

Now I remember how much I hate UW bball lol.

To be fair, we've had trouble winning at IU even when we had our best teams. I believe we are 13-66 all-time at IU now.

Seems big 12 is garbage, too.

Meanwhile, MSU is playing at Nebraska tonight at 8pm on FS1

Msu is deep. Winning at Nebraska is no joke with 2 players out hurt. Nebraska 1 for its last 16 from three, and 5-25 total from three.

Maryland beats OSU 75-61. 4 straight losses for those fuckers. OSU is now 10th in the Big 10.

Well, Jan 19th was a big day for college basketball

It all started with the undefeated Michigan Wolverines going down in Madison.

#13 UNC won at Miami Fla, 85-76

#25 IU lost at Purdue, 70-55. I guess IU won't be ranked anymore.

#3 Tennessee barely beat an unranked Alabama team, 71-68. It was a home game for Tennessee. Close games happen, though. Too bad Alabama couldn't pull of the upset. I'm not really buying Tennessee.

#7 Kansas lost at WVU, 65-64

#12 UK won at #14 Auburn, 82-80. I'm not buying either one of these teams...

#8 Texas Tech lost at unranked Baylor, 73-62. More big12 nonsense.

Soon-to-be-not #1 Duke won at home shorthanded against previously undefeated #4 Virginia, 72-70. They were the lone undefeated team for a few hours.

Unranked Texas beat #20 Oklahoma, 75-72. More big12 nonsense.

The new rankings will be interesting to see. I guess they'll probably put Tennessee at #1. I think Michigan, Duke, and Virginia would probably beat them, though. Will Duke just drop 1 spot? Will they move Gonzaga to #2? That would be a total joke to me.

So, now we will see if this team is the real deal. I think they are. Need to get it back on it. Hope they take it as motivation to start a run to the B1G championship.

Probably Tennessee moves up to #1. A case could still be made for Duke even with the Syracuse loss. More quality wins than probably anyone, won at FSU when Zion barely played. Beat Virginia (albeit at home) without their PG. After that you can put UVa, Gonzaga, and UM there in any order and MSU is sneaking up into that group. Myself I'd put UVa at #3. They have dominant wins against VTech and FSU, who people were thinking were pretty good before running into them and a road win vs Maryland that is starting to look pretty good. And losing by 2 at Duke is hardly shameful.

But then again the less that basketball rankings are talked about the better since ultimately they are a waste of one's breath.

I could give 2 shits about rankings right now. I think what most people here are interested in is sticking around the #1 ranking, so we can get a 1 seed.

Right.

Although I think if a team is ever actually ranked number one at a time during the year, that could only help and not hurt the team?s cause for a higher seed.

Well, Florida St lost at BC. Maybe they aren't that good after all.

Providence fell at Marquette. I don't know how good of a win that will end up being for Michigan.

Today, 1/20/19:

Maryland plays at MSU at 6:30pm on FS1

VaTech plays at UNC at 7pm on ESPN

Nebraska plays at Rutgers 8pm on BTN
