Petti

Well, I am not really a favor of this deal.

All of the things said about Droptimus Prime on this board the last few days were correct. My favorite was the Rotoworld re-post about him being a "Catch and fall guy".

At $4M per year, I'd would rather he was a Jet. I don't believe in the myth of his great blocking ability, and without that, he's an inferior TE.

Bad signing in my book, it was time to let him walk and make someone elses QB look bad.

This deal will puts him as the 16th highest paid TE in the league right now. By end of the off season he will be in the bottom 3rd. Hate him all you want but that is a bargain for the production he will give you.

If he doesn't improve under new coaches, then they paid too much. Based on previous play he isn't worth this contract, but I will hope the new coaches can help him improve. Only reason to have spent this money is due to below average talent in draft and FA, but maybe he will improve. Much does depend on new coaches setting him up for success with better play calling and Stafford improving.

They could pay me as the 64th highest paid tight end in football, and I promise you, it would still be a bad deal for my out of shape fat ass.

Doesn't matter how cheap a guy is if he's not productive. It's even worse if he gives his team a false sense of security which means they don't get a guy who CAN play instead.

How about we compare him to what we could have got. thats the money peppers is supposed to get.....

I think Peppers may land a little more than that as the DE market taps out, but yes, I see your point.

Would we be happier with a receiving threat like Fuaria, and a blocking TE, along with Julius Peppers, or Brandon Pettigrew dropping balls and blocking badly... and nothing else?

Peppers will cost more than double what pettigrew cost, come on now

I am not sure if you mean Peppers will get eight million a year, or a 32 million dollar deal, but either way, I doubt he will get anywhere near it.

I like there is one less need but I kind of wanted to see this offense with a TE who can get down the seam. Also this offense is locked up long term with Tate and Pettigrew deals. Sims and Raiola the only short term guys now.

They can create more cap space with or without Suh still. Pretty good they made all these moves without restructuring anyone yet.

All these moves? We signed Tate. We resigned Pettigrew and Bell. I don't think anyone was expecting a splash but we still have some serious holes. Let's leave your trademark spin at home for once - Suh has Moron Mayhew's nuts in a vice - again.

Holes? Very little. Safety we'll get Ihedigbo. CB and WR still have a draft. Nobody's nuts are in a vice. Can restructure people too for more room. Suh has no leverage since we can make moves even with him at a huge number.

De wr rt cb s olb....That's without throwing in backup center like so many people want us to address for some reason lol.

Is that Aaron Hernandez? What are they counting how many times he dropped the soap?

From what I can tell for a guy who can also block he hasn't been doing that well lately. Curious what his guarantee is?

Nvm, 8 - too much.

They made moves but they haven't improved anywhere except a slight upgrade with Tate.

Pettigrew contract details out

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/detroit-lions/brandon-pettigrew/

4 years/$16 million

$8 million guaranteed (includes $4 million signing bonus)

The $4MM bonus is spread out over the full 4 years ($1MM/year)

Base Salary
2014: 1.2MM (guaranteed)
2015: 2.8MM (guaranteed in March of 2015)
2016: 3.65MM (not guaranteed)
2017: 4.35MM (not guaranteed)

He has a $2.2MM cap hit this upcoming season

He becomes a cap savings in 2016 if things don't work out (although technically he's a cap savings if they release him before March of 2015 I believe)

According to Spotrac that leaves the Lions with 2.226MM in cap space. That lines up pretty close to the 2.554MM the Lions are expected to use for draft picks (I don't know if Spotrac includes this or not).

I would imagine the Lions are pretty much done in FA unless Suh signs an extension.
