Hire some guy that introduces himself with:

“I am not a ‘football guy’”

“I would probably say that I’m not qualified to run any other NFL team”

not to be janitor....but to be president of a football team lmao.

OFCOURSE the lions will make the playoffs this year.....this is totally the type of hot mess that a team should be rewarded with a low draft pick. This is the type of stuff the NBA is talking about doing to the 76ers. When you continue to be shitty for this long....there comes a point in time you should stop being rewarded for it.

Damn, I forgot this board is only for discussing the important topics, like "Stafford sucks", or "Caldwell sucks" or the ever popular "This team sucks".

Never mind discussing the possibilities that this team could actually sneak into the playoffs. As of week one we are mathematically eliminated, and we all MUST begin to focus on the following year.

there is a mathematical possibility that we can make the playoffs. But the math suggests that is because of how much shittier the NFC "L"east is, the downfall of the Falcons and the main thing going against us is the resurgence of Seattle. We do have a weak schedule. Last 3 of 4 will be away if I remember correctly...in the cold....and we cant run worth a lick.

Making the playoffs never has really appeased me as a lions fan.....cause it just means I get to see them lose a week later. Yes, it does get you a chance. Yes, there has been recent success from the wild card teams. No, I don't think this is a very good team based on how they have played this year. Yes, they have played better with Cooter running the offense. If that trend can continue vs a previously mentioned "weaker" schedule then we should be able to turn the season into something respectable. But in no way do I see them as a contender. yet.

I didn't think they would go 0-5 to start the season. I don't think they'll finish 8-0 to end the season. I figured theyd always be somewhere in the middle this year....that's where they will end up. You guys realize youre losing your minds because of 3 straight wins....2 of them being a struggle. Totally being lionized. They will tease you....they will pretend....and then when it matters most they will crumble like the little kittens they are! Just like they always do....

I've seen pretty much nothing in this thread but talk of "possibilities" quantified by the reality it's a complete long shot. I don't see anyone "losing their minds".

Yes, this whole thing is the result of a weak NFC. We're part of that. Realistically, there is a good chance we can win out. We're the Lions, it won't happen, but the odds suggest it could.

The discussion is relevant to this season.

Don't forget......a week one L means we start scouting what TE we're taking with the #1 overall pick in the upcoming draft.

Oh, and every bad game by our QB is a testament to how shitty he is.......every good game is a testament to how shitty the opponent is.

Damn it Ink......stop enjoying football!!!!!!!!!

Time for a KOOL AID GIF because this thread needs one to sip on.. As you all know I am terrible with GIF's..

One at a time!!!!!! One at a time !!!! Sweep the Packers and we are all buy swamp land where-ever they sell it!!!!!

Imagine if say we pound the Packers 34-17 or something like that?
Damn it all I am getting giddy thinking about it..

It's amazing what happens when you go through a span of 8 weeks with only 1 real road game. Suddenly there is hope.

While all the final games are winnable, they are also loseable. After this week back to 3 of the final 4 on the road. No matter the team, it is always hard to win on the road.

Best scenario is the Vikings, Panthers and Cardinals win out. With the obvious exception being the Vikings/Cardinals game.

The slim good news is we got clobbered by the AFC, which means if we somehow win out our NFC record will be pretty solid and could come into play in any tie breaking scenario.

Worst case scenario would be if Seahawks and Lions end up tied for the 6th position. I can't imagine the whining we would hear about the end of the lions/seahawks game then.

I could see Minnesota losing 4 of their next 5. That teams success hinges way too much on AP. He goes down, it's over for them. Imo, APs workload and presence alone have extremely hindered Bridgewaters development.

Not sure it hinders it, he gets to come along slowly while picking up wins. Exactly what Minny needs, good for Brigewater too. . He still throws near 30 passes a game, just safer short passes.

I hope they keep winning, at least it's still meaningful football, until there officially out

were asking atl to finish like 2-9. Us to finish 8-0. SEA needs to start losing. Need to sweep the pack. Need to win games on the road 3 of last 4. And a partridge in a pear tree.

...no big deal.

Since there was clearly a breach of forum etiquette at some point, when is the board allowed to talk about playoff possibilities?

Until we are permitted to talk about something other than the draft or why the Lions are terrible, please direct me to the freshest "Stafford/Caldwell/New President sucks" thread.

No one said we cant talk about it. I actually have like 5 responses talking about it. They just are an opposing view point...which is to be expected on a forum.

Falcons beating the Saints, Jags, and Bucs and losing two to Carolina in the final weeks, still doesn't hamper our odds of making the playoffs.

Seattle winning out doesn't hamper our odds, as they would make the wild card as the #5 seed.

The only keys to us making the playoffs are winning out. Yes, it's unlikely, but not because we can't win out, because we're the Lions. It's as simple as that. The ONLY thing that makes it unlikely is that we as fans are negative on the chances of our team doing anything good.

We have a Thursday game against Green Bay at home. We SHOULD win that game. Can't say we will, but on paper, it's a home game against a team we already beat on the road that was just beat by the Bears. They are losing football games to bad teams. We should be able to beat them at home.

We follow that up with a road game against the Rams. We SHOULD be able to win that game with the disastrous injuries they've taken. Can't say we will, but they are playing very bad football right now.

We then have a road game against the Saints. They are already checking out of the building. Head coach is leaving. QB is leaving. Team is down in the dumps, and they have been as bad as us all year. It's a winnable game even on the road.

Up next is the 49'ers. I don't even need to explain why we SHOULD win this game. They are worse off than the Iggles right now. I don't think they can win another game this season. BUT, it's a potential trap game too. They will play spoiler for someone, could be us.

Lastly, we play in Chi-Town against the Bears. They are an injury away from not having a team. They never should have beaten Green Bay, and it speaks more to the weakness in GB this season than the rise of Da Bears. We SHOULD be able to win this game, but it's outdoors, cold climates, home field for the Bears... could be a loss.

Any of these games could be wins or losses, but on paper we SHOULD win them all. That's the point of the discussion. If the Lions beat the teams we SHOULD beat, we can still make the playoffs.

Our odds really boil down to the team doing what it should do, and Green Bay losing one they shouldn't. Oakland or Minny could beat Green Bay, giving us a paved road into the playoffs.

Like the cliche goes... Any Given Sunday, so what should happen on paper means nothing, but the majority of the arguments you brought up are not a factor.

Our odds, assuming we win these games, are either 99% or 1% depending on Green Bay and what happens there.
