Preseason Game 2: Lions @ Raiders

H. Melville wrote Bartleby. His best work, that's right his best work. That alone makes him awesome.

Do you like Huey Lewis and The News? Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In '87, Huey released this, Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.

Honestly I didn't learn very much from this game. Yes the first team offense looked great. They are supposed to look great, so while it's nice to see it doesn't make me suddenly more pumped up about the team. People get mesmerized by great offenses, until they realize that great defenses will shut down anybody (ask the Broncos vs. the Seahawks). The questions about this team are not so much on the offensive side as they are on the defensive side. I still have lots of doubt about how effective they can be. Can they stop finding ways to beat themselves, as has been the Lions M.O. for years?

That's not to mention that Stafford needs to show consistency through an entire season. Yeah he had a great 1st quarter, but it was in the second halves of games that he fell apart late last year. Hopefully he's comfortable with the adjustments to his mechanics and makes better decisions. Heaven help us if he gets hurt this year.

I think it's promising that we moved the ball well without Calvin. That was an issue last year. WRs got open and made plays. That's big.

Did you just compare Mitch to Patrick Bateman?

his point is we have a 1st pick qb, 1st rd rb, (2) 1st rd TEs, 2nd rd Wr, 1st rd LT all on the field last night....we should move the ball without calvin....and if we cant someone should get fired like linewartz did last year.

nice call tony....Matthews looks good for sure. I think Moncrief is going to be stashed behind Nicks, Ty Hilton and reggie wayne.....but in chip kellys system Matthews will earn time all over the field.

sigh...my 2 WR choices from last draft...one can only dream...

Nicks is sucking it up, but yeah you may need to wait a year on Moncrief. Cooks looks like the real deal too.

I think there are some similarities...yes. Has he killed several people with an axe?...I dunno....I just don't know....but im not going to rule that possibility out.

Against the Raiders who literally are the NFL's version of the truck stop $3.99 CD bin. How many washed up vets can you have on one team? IDK ask the Raiders.

Lot of space to bury the bodies out in the desert.

True that.

The Raiders are what happens when you have a cap basement. Overpaid vets on one last contract to hit the basement floor.

How did they not sign Peppers?

who really reads bartelby? think about it.....who does it? People that go to Harvard and axe murderers. That's who....

He's a Lions fan to boot - a lot of pent up anger there. I think the FBI could put together one hell of a profile.

i thought peppers would have been a huge upgrade over Jason jones and devin taylor lol.....call me frikken nuts.

Its not like we had a lot of capo room. We are paying Suh 21 mil and with him unwilling to renegotiate its not like we could make many moves.

From what I remember reading peppers wanted to play in a 3-4. That and being older probably wants to go to a team with a better history of winning.

Peppers would have fit right in but that meant he would bump LaMarr Woodley or Justin Tuck. Vetception

First of all an axe is not my choice weapon. I'm more into the saw. And secondly, how do you know I didn't attend Harvard? Hah, that sounded better in my head.

I would prefer not to is like the polite way of saying fk off.
