You also have to consider...this isnt calvin coming to them making an offer. This is the team reaching out to him. Calvin owes us nothing....hes retired...and having a blast doing nothing and pouring money into some canibus company. If the team reaches out to him to become more engaged with team activities...absolutely he has every right to ask for something in return. And to Toms point its a fairly inexpensive way for the Lions to save face in the process.

Personally, I would like to see the team patch things up with Megatron. But in the end, it doesn't actually matter much. I know everyone thinks the team needs him for merchandising, but they really don't.

Thanks to the reciprocals agreement in the CBA, they can still sell his jersey, his photos, etc... whether he likes it or not, much the same way you could still buy Barry's gear for years after his retirement. And he wasn't happy about paying back his bonus either.

Then there's the Hall of Fame talk. First, we're assuming he gets in, which I think is a safe assumption. But, he could decide to go in as a "player" rather than a Lion.

Well, the NFL has the ability to decide which uniform the player wears into the hall, and they have always said if a guy only played for one team, he's going in that uni. So, I'm 99.9999% sure Calvin is a Lion in the HOF no matter what.

All in all, the ONLY real reason to pay this man his money and patch things up, it because honestly, it's the right thing to do, for the team, for the player, and most of all for the fans.

And I think Martha Firestone Ford is pretty interested in doing the right thing.

We have the cap space. Pay both players and move on. We aren?t talking about rotation players, we?re talking about two of the top players in the league at what they do. We payed Flowers, we payed Coleman , now take care of in house business.

Slay is the 19th ranked corner last year. He's the "best" about as much as Stafford is the best... like not at all. 3 picks bro? No big plays slay.

Couldn't be because teams shy away from throwing Slay's way could it ?? Nah that can't be it . 3 picks , sheesh he really sucks actually !!
 
PFF: He had the sixth-best forced incompletion rate at 19.8 and was third in the NFL was 12 pass breakups.


Though they ranked him 18th best coming into this season. Which is weird. The thing with Slay is that there are so many good CB in the league. He could be 5th best or 15th it's hard to say that he's underpaid.
 
they are both under contract for 2 more years. Don't even think about extending them unless the team needs to re-structure for more cap space.
