Yes Leyland knows how to handle superstars. He would be able to whip Hanley into shape.

He did with Pudge and also has Cabrera playing great for him. Miguel had serious character issues before he came to Detroit.

Cabby still has issues off the field but it does not hinder his play on the field.

And I would have lved Manny on the Tigers. Sometimes you have to look past a thing or two.

The reality is that there is about 6 guys in the league that run out every grounder or popout, so it's a matter of degree.

No more Pete Rose types.

I owuld have loved Manny Ramirez in his prime..are you kidding me? Worked out well for the BoSox.

regardless of talent, i hate players who are gigantic douchebags.

Well no one likes them. But they sure can come in handy. Lol.

I'd take a team full of Manny, Bonds, Sheffield, Pudge, Clemens, Zambrano types any day of the week if they played like those cats. I watch the game to see my team win and to see the best athletes, not to see a lot of great guys who hustle and lose.

That sounds more like a mismatched team of infighting assholes who can't be bothered to chase down a fly ball or back up a play than it does a surefire winner. Throw HanRam on the pile too, maybe he can slowly walk to all the balls that skip off his glove too...

this. i think a team with that many bigheaded primadonnas would implode.

Probably right but I'll take one or two.

i dont think that is the point he is making. I think he means that he would take a team full of players as talented as them no matter what their character.

Would take either Hanram or Reyes. Rumor has it that the Marlins only want to offer him 3 years and could probably max out on 4 years. They have the money to outbid us but if we give him that 4 years with a 5th year mutual option i think that could be better than a couple extra million. If the Marlins want to trade Hanram i would trade Castellanos, Al Al, and Rondon.

The Marlins said they would move Hanram to 3rd. They said he is the most important part of their team and he is not going anywhere no matter who they sign. Now it's sports, so if the price is right anyone is tradeable...but that doesn't sound like they have plans to trade him.

Precisely. I'm not looking at these guys for a moral compass, I just want to be entertained. It definitely makes it easier to root for likeable players, but you can't put that ahead of talent if you want to win.

Which one of these does not belong?

BONDS SHEFFIELD PUDGE CLEMENS MANNY

Pull up his career numbers. He's a beast and clearly needs a change of scenery from last year. I'm not sure Ozzie is the guy to provide that either.

I know what his career numbers are.

Read what I posted....he put up horrible numbers last year, you're assuming next year he'll be back to his old average, but that's a pretty big gamble, and a horrible loss if he doesn't.

And I don't think "a change of scenery" changes his skills one bit, for him to drop off that bad makes me think something bigger is involved.
He's only 27. It's isn't diminishing skills, it's diminishing motivation with him. He's on a shitty team with a joke manager and no fanbase. He's been openly criticized by his manager and teammates for hustle and professionalism. He's the perfect candidate for a change of scenery. He's also a perfect candidate for a position change as well given his size (6'3" and 229lbs). He'd be a fine replacement for Cringe at 3B.
