Sanchez wants 6/$90MM

im not worried about Verlander's extension, I seem to remember he's said he would also like to remain a Tiger for life and doesnt really care about getting the biggest contract ever or anything.

Depending on the length, and how soon they begin negotiations, since his current 5 year deal ends after '15, JV's extension could possibly if not easily surpass $$$250MM...that is...IF the Tigers honchos really intend to make him a career Tiger.

It's unlikely anybody gives him more than 8 years, so he's not probably gonna challenge that 250.

But 8 years 200 million is probable, maybe 8 years 216 million seems likely IMO.

its been said that we were really worried about the Royals getting shields. do you think now that the dodgers got greinke and the korean guy plus this trade we make a big push to resign sanchez?

This is an example of somebody who just doesn't get it.

An example of someone who doesn't get it? What is it I do not get? The guy is not worth that amount of money... one postseason of lights out pitching does not mean he will do that again, just as much as Verlander's struggles in the WS does not mean that the next time around he will suffer the same fate. He is not worth the money IMO. If you feel otherwise then that is fine, but I have been a baseball fan for over 30 years, and more than have a clue.

You don't understand how the FA market works.

Getting upset because Sanchez was insulted by an offer of 4 years 48 million (which if true, is indeed an insulting offer) proves that.

I don't think so. He might get 15 and longer than 4 years. But 4/48m is a fine offer. Any more and he's getting overpayed. Like I said before, its okay if he wants more, but that offer based on his career numbers are more than fair.

If you believe you are worth, in the very least, 15 million per year, then yes, 12 million is insulting.

Sanchez wants 6 years 90 million.

Tigers reportedly offered 4 years 48 million.

If you believe yourself to be worth what Sanchez is asking for, an over like that is incredibly insulting, it is nowhere close to the ballpark of what you're looking for.

And if Sanchez signs for 4/48, he'd be considerably underpaid.

That's the point he's not worth it. So if he thinks he's worth 10 years 1B anything less is insulting?

Base on ESPN rankings Dan Haren(7) got 13,000,000 for a year. Ryan Dempster got 26,500,000 for two years. Sanchez ranked @ 9 so he should get around 13 million a year and so far only two ranked pitchers have gotten more than 2 years.

2 years at 26 million seems about his going rate as of now.

Sign Jackson for 1 years at 13 million or Marcum at 15 million for 2 years and Anibal price will come to Earth.

Really Sanchez was not that good during the season, He got hot during the playoffs. I would not give him more than 2 or 3 years. 4yrs at 48 million was a better than good offer. IMO.

appears Cubs signed him 5yrs $75Mill...??

latest from mlbtraderumors;

5:08pm: The deal is not yet complete, as Sanchez's agent Gene Mato tells CBS Sports' Jon Heyman that he is still talking to other teams. Sources tell Heyman that the Tigers are still "very much in [the] mix." (both links to Twitter)

4:50pm: The Cubs have given their rebuilding process a major boost by agreeing to sign free agent right-hander Anibal Sanchez to a five-year contract, reports Bob Nightengale of USA Today. The deal could be worth $75MM, reports FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, who said earlier today that the two sides were close to an agreement. The contract will become official once Sanchez passes a physical. Sanchez is represented by Mato Sports Management.

The signing is a surprise given that the Cubs were thought to be at least a year away from pursuing big-ticket free agents, instead signing such low-cost/high-upside pitchers as Scott Baker and Scott Feldman and signing Japanese closer Kyuji Fujikawa this winter. Yet, it was Theo Epstein, Jed Hoyer and company who outbid five other teams (including the Tigers) for Sanchez's services, according to Nightengale (Twitter link). Sanchez, 28, is young enough to be a key rotation piece for the next contending Cubs team, and Chicago now has an ace atop what looks like a very solid rotation that also includes Matt Garza, Jeff Samardzija, Baker and Feldman.

Sanchez was ranked as the fourth-best free agent available by MLBTR's Tim Dierkes, and the second-best pitcher behind only Zack Greinke. The righty has posted a 3.70 ERA, an 8.1 K/9 rate, a 2.89 K/BB ratio and an average of 196 innings over the last three seasons with the Marlins and Tigers, also pitching very well in three postseason starts for Detroit last October.

See, this is where you'd think common sense would play a role. The Cubs? Well, at least for the next 5years, no WS titles.

I get the feeling the agent is trying to use the cubs to get more from an actual team. But as much as I want the Tigers to get another starter. I hope we dont pay him that. Its to much.

When you sign with the Cubs, money was your only priority. Good luck Sanchez, lol.

He will get bombed playing at wrigley. Many times he was saved by the size of Comerica.

After it has all played out it is disappointing now to finally realize we gave up Jacob Turner, Rob Brantly and Brian Flynn for Omar Infante now that it boils down.
