not much for toppings so far either.

As it now stands, the Tigers will have two positions where two players will share work. At second base, it

It's probably a combination of things. First, there aren't many FA that fill the Tiger's biggest needs (3B,2B). Second, the tigers payroll has probably been higher than what they were comfortable with over the past few years. They probably know that they can win the division with the team that they have so why over pay in a trade now when there will be more players available at or near the trade deadline.

Except DD and MI both hinted at big moves. Now granted, the big FA signs already I didn't expect those gjys. Maybe a Mark Buerhle but the rest no. The Blue Jays 2B took arbitration, so apparently DD didn't feel it worth to offer the guy something? I know some of you are content "we were 4th in offense blah blah blah".

3B is going to be a .235, 200 k tandem. 2B with be a cluster fk. CF, great defense and less than average offense (and thats if Aj hits like he did as a rook) and 160 K's. LF, I'd like to think DY will clobber the ball but him and Raburn its one messed up inconsistent tandem. Where one K's as much as anyone and the others doesn't know what it looks like taking a pitch.

Then we have BB, I'm a fan, but there are times he still worries me. And lastly, Miggy is the only one I'm confident can hit like he did last season. Mart was great but I'm not sure we can expect the same, Peralta -- most likely won't put up the same numbers. Avila had some times at seasons end where he struggle so I have no idea on him.

You win 95 and keep the same team intact, bad news. Someone mentioned it in another thread but our hitting went cold in the playoffs. We won the division this season, not sure anyone will challenge this year but no WS with the team we currently have.

When you have to count on 3 positions being platoon it means you have 6 guys who aren't worth jack.

DD basically reiterated that there's a lot of offseason still left yesterday. Moves that made sense weren't really there for us yet, but I'm confident we'll do something big this offseason or by the trade deadline.

I assumed they would not make many big changes and tinker (ala Dotel) since they got DY 2.0 and Fister at the trade deadline. I am not expecting much, but we will see.

with Magglio and Guilens 23 mill off the books, they should at least equal last years payroll, and get somebody.

I understand that. We got Miggy late. But make us fans happy for a bit. Laird and Dotel aren't doing it. The problem with trades, Detroit isn't prospect heavy. You have Turner and Canstellanos, who by himself wont bring much. Thin after that.

I don't think we'll see a 3b. I think they have Castellanos (sp) penned in for 2013. If there is a big move, it will be 2b.

Yeah, still tons of time left in the off season. It isn't like the trade deadline came and went. Now if it starts to get into late January/February, then I will start to think that we might not do anything. Still thinking that we move a corner OF and sign Cepedes.

Mark my word. Canstellanos will be a COF.

Just because a guy is rich, doesn't mean he has to throw his money away. I think we all remember the numerous complaint threads about the money paid to Bondo, Nate, Willis, Guillen, Ordonez and more. The money spent on the top free agents so far has been pretty shocking, and those players haven't been in positions of need as previously mentioned.

Who have the Tigers really missed out on, Kelly Johnson? And he might have gotten an offer that he passed on. Long way to go until spring.

I'd take Howard Johnson right now.

I don't really understand this. Platoons can be incredibly productive.

Which ones do we have that are productive? Inge, Dirks, Kelly, Santiago, DY, Raburn.

they can, but not with the guys we plan to platoon. raburn is the only one actually suited for it, but only in the OF and not at 2B. inge and kelly are barely backup quality and ramon just isnt good enough offensively to be the strong side of a platoon.

Just think about it, these dudes make up half, HALF of our offensive roster. That's pathetic. And I'm not even counting Laird.

DY 2.0 did ok and had that big year. Raburn is awesome after the 4th of July.

They are already at last year's payroll (maybe even more)

For roughly one-two weeks last season, was 2B manned by an adequate player, being the brittle Carlos Guillen.

It/he didn't last, obviously.

If it were me, I would have damned the torpedos and made Kelly Johnson a halfway-decent offer. The dude took arby, and unless he is a completely moronic Jays homer, having a few extra million waved in your face in a year or two contract, "should" be hard to pass up, IMO.

Raburn was a .257 hitter with a huge .297 OBP. Half a year or what you want to call it, it was horrific. And for a COF and less than average defense. DY had its moments but overall wasn't much better. We have 4 positions that suck on offense.
