So did Pizza Boy, run out of dough?

He's a good GM. Face it you're wrong. You want to bitch because of Laird and Dotel, lol. Two ALCS and 1 WS appearence. Most GM's don't do that.

1 division championship with a top 5 payroll, the second best hitter in baseball, and a CY pitcher. That isn't exactly great work. I agree with you that he knows how to spend money with the best of them. I disagree with you if you think that he spends money wisely.

edit: Divison championship= AL Central championship

He beat the freakin' Yanks twice in the playoffs. The Tigers' aren't just get into the playoffs and lose. They advance. And to be honest, Cabby deal over ways all the negative you listed by its self. Huge. Best hitter in baseball.

WTF are you talking about?

For one, you listed Santiago twice.

For two, all of those guys are veterans. The only bad contract is Inge, and that is not crippling the payroll in any way.

My Mistake on Listing Santiago twice.

1. My point is pretty easy to understand. Do I need to write it in smaller words?
2, Do "veterans" that can't hit do a better job at making outs than rookie that can't hit?
3. Is $19 million loose change for you? I don't understand your problem. Only one player on my list is even usable, and DD gave him more money than any set up man in history. The rest are over paid bench warmers for the majority of major league teams.
4. The big question. Would you trade all of this garbage for Hanley Ramirez. Everyone would call you nuts if you thought that you could get a good player for that bunch of garbage. If that is the case, then why are we paying this garbage more money than a superstar.
5. Conclusion: DD hasn't been doing a good job when it comes to allocating money.

conclusion: you are a moron.

Mitch[/color]]Polanco wanted a 3 year deal. You'd be bitching now if he was here. If you're putting maggs resign as a negative than you need to add Maggs being added initially a plus. Washburn and Huff were cheap. They didn't cst us anyone. Damon wasn't at his best but better than not having him. And what about getting Pudge, Guillen and Polanco and Fister and Valverde and I could go on and on. The plusses easily out weights the negatives.

We are talking about a Good GM. Every team is going to add players that are good when you throw around 100 million dollars. Did it take a great GM to trade two minor leaguers for a 25 year old superstar? Is signing a closer that hard to do? Washburn and huff were busts, they didn't get the job done. Sheffield was a disaster. Jackson is a bust so far. Edwin Jackson should have got us a better player than Sherzer. He got Colby Rasmus for Toronto and E. Jackson isn't close to the player that he was for us. Damon was a 6 million dollar waste of money. Polonco would be much better at second or third than anything that we have now. I would not bitch about the Polonco contract, where is our number two hitter since he left? I don't think that resigning Magglio was a bad idea, but you can not argue that it worked out. Oh I forgot the Adam Everett move too. All in all DD does not have more successes than failures.
I can see most of your points. And comparing RSmith w/Dombrowski is not fair. Smith was given 20 bucks to spend and a directive from Illitch to save it. Dombrowski was given free rein to make the team a contender. Totally diff environments from which to operate. But sports are all about the bottom line. And Dombrowski's bottom line has been a success overall. You can argue how successfull all you want but most have to agree, he's turned the team from a joke into a contender.

Anyone that says DD is a bad GM just proves a point that they don't know baseball. His plusses way outdo his mistakes, a bad contract is always because someone didn't do what was expected, all but Willis' were not bad at the time they were given, you can't look into the future with contracts, I would have to you use many, many pages to go over other teams "bad" contracts, all GM's do them because no one can see into the future. Do you forget that Sheffield was close to one of the best hitters in baseball for us for about two months before the collision and basically the end of his career, but you expect DD to see that someone is going to get hurt, same with Bonderman, there were probably 16 teams in baseball who would've loved to have Bondo at his age with that contract, but he got hurt!!

The Robertson and Guillen contracts were bad at the time too.

Didn't take a genius to figure those ones would blow up in our face.

I don't blame DD,I think he's done a pretty good job, sure there's areas we could improve on as a team and for the most part he's done that. it's all about putting the pieces together as a team, He went out and filled the most important needs and now it's time to find a quality 2b and 3b, along with another starter. I also think a lot has to do with Illitch, he's got much deeper pockets than Monaghan, but Monaghan had deeper pockets than Fetzer. I remember having a new tiger player meant, you usually got an aging star, who was at the end of their careers, so lets take the good with the bad.
