Today is the last day for teams to waive a player on a non-guaranteed contract and be responsible for only 30 days termination pay.
Not expecting any surprises -- at least not in Lakeland -- but if there were any surprises, today would be the day.

Roster moves for Tigers today:

- RHP Bryan Garcia optioned to Triple-A Toledo.
- OF Daz Cameron optioned to Triple-A Toledo.

- RHP Miguel Diaz reassigned to minor-league camp.
- RHP Ricardo Pinto reassigned to MiLB camp.

MLB spring training: 42 players.

Prior to today's game, the Tigers reassigned RHP's Wily Peralta and Ram?n Rosso to Minor League camp.

Detroit has 40 players remaining in Major League camp.

Following today?s game, the Tigers reassigned RHP Jacob Barnes to Minor League camp.
The Tigers have 39 players remaining in Major League camp.

WATERCOOLER WEDNESDAY.
Totally Tigers

Today, another opportunity for readers to discuss the hottest topics in a forum where thoughtful dialog and a variety of opinions are welcomed.

Let?s create some running conversational threads. And for those of you still going into offices, here?s a question to take with you ? or use via Zoom calls ? as you talk to your co-workers.

Here is today?s hot topic.

Due to the CBA negotiations, spring training was shortened this year. And because of that, all teams will be able to carry 2 extra players on their roster for the first month of the season. The reason is to help reduce the workload on pitchers who are not fully stretched out.

Organizations do not necessarily have to add 2 pitchers.
They may add whomever they feel will work best for their team.

In the Tigers? case, they have Wily Peralta and Michael Pineda who are still having work visas processed and cannot yet pitch in actual games.

What would your strategy be if you were A. J. Hinch?

Would you add 2 players who you feel are currently MLB-level ready in order to avoid last year?s horrendous April start?

Or would you use this month to give top prospects who didn?t make the roster some extra time for experience and further evaluation?

Which 2 players should be added to the roster?

1. Those at or near MLB playing level.

2. Top prospects for added evaluation and/or experience.

I'm a little surprised that Parker Meadows only has 3 ABs this entire spring.
