Stafford Extension to be done today

Stafford is the top 10 mix. The rookies have way more to prove, especially Luck with his numbers. He's good enough to be right there with Romo and Schaub and Rivers based on the last 2 years.

Stafford needs to have a better completion %. 59% blows. He also needs to stop being such a puss in the pocket and learn how to step up and fire the ball. The director from Happy Feet called and wants his dance back.

Considering the circumstances, 59.8% is the best that could be done. Scheffler(50%), Durham/Thomas(40%) were the only receiving options that had less than 61% completion to them. Think about that.

Stafford is a running game and passing game all in one still. He had only 4 short fields. Many of those other QBS had more short fields, hence easy TD opps and better run games. 16 fumbles took away point opps for him some after he made some great throws even to Calvin/Pettigrew (5). 11 of the 17 picks were his fault. 49 drops is huge hurting the completion plus 21 throw aways.

Stafford will get back to the low to mid 60% in 2013 with Broyles/Pettigrew/Burleson/Bush full time.

focus on the context not the number.

I could see Pettigrw getting back on track with more separation, Broyles full time will help with separation and he's going to have a ton of easier throws to Bush if they target him properly.

He has only had one year where it was above 60%. Only one year where he averaged more than 7 yards per attempt. Last year there were 20 players that averaged more yards per attempt and 17 that completed at a higher percenatage.

WE USE HIM AS A RUNNING GAME TOO. He moves the chains and scores points well. That is all you can ask. Stafford played well enough to be a low 60% play again. Injuries, drops, throwaways and alot of interior pressure(which he didn't have in 2011) derailed that. Plus the weapons can get a little more sepearatoin. Broyles and Pettigrew can improve that. Plus Bush makes for some easy yet productive targets.

All of that 40.1% incompletion is not on Stafford mechanics either. Some is lack of separation by weapons making Stafford have to force it at times, some is wrong routes (cough Durham pick), some are just great plays by the defenders, some are batted passes, some is interior pressure causing a bad throw and some are WRs not getting in bounds properly. And then of course drops and throwaways for 70 incomplete passes.

He also led the league in sidearm throws airmailed 10 yards over WRs heads while throwing off his back foot. I like staff....was a great extension. But he needs to improve to deserve the money. Right now hes a middle of the pack guy making top 10 money. this extension was based on the hope he gets better....now he needs to do it.

we have the same weapons at wr/te

interior pressure will still be there cause raoila is still here.

He's a top 10 guy making top 10 money. I agree he can improve on some things like the back foot throws. But those throws are not as much as you think and not always the problem for incompletions. Drops and lack of separation and injuries and interior protection were the teams big incompletion issues. Give him more than 4 short fields too. Don't fumble the ball 16 times.

Stafford is the LEAST of anything that needs improvement other than Calvin. I, like you, hope he does improve too. But I'm hoping they help him out a little. Just give me one thing out of less fumbles, interior protection, drops, short fields and weapon separation. One and Stafford is back on track even WITHOUT improvement from his mechanics and decision making last year.

There is a reason Bush was added, Warford was added (Peterman cut) and they are happy Broyles/Pettigrew/Burelson are healthy.

And I for one, am happy Stafford even with shit mechanics with shit interior protection can score 23.3 PPG with only 4 short fields all year and no defensive TDs with his WRS 2-4 hurt for the last 5 games and TE hurt the last 4 with no explosive RB all year.

Every single excuse I gave right there should be fixed.

Bush will be great in our offense.

Warford wont make up for Raoilas shortcommings.

Reiff needs to be at RT and we need a stud LT.

Need an upgrade at #2 WR and TE. Pettigrew drops dont bother me as much as the fact he can only run 1 route then falls down after 6 yards. Burleson is done. Broyles is fine as a #3/slot type....if he ever stay on the field.

And Stafford didn't all of sudden go from good mechanics in 2011 to shit mechanics in 2012 on his own. His interior protection(Peterman blows) was the biggest culprit for that.

Plus Stafford had 10 more TD opportunities on short fields raising the PPG from the offense to 27 from 23.3. Then the defense added another 2 PPG in 2011 to take it to 29 PPG.

Raiola is fine in pass pro. He wasn't the problem if you look at the numbers. It was all Peterman and Peterman fell off a cliff in 2012 after a good 2011 with Raiola right next to him both years. Warford can be an upgrade in pass pro. Run game, we'll see if bulked up Raiola will still be a hindrance.

And Reiff can be an LT in this league. He has enough strength and athleticism. We had shit tackle protection in 2011 as wel but great interior protection.

In no particular order

Brady
Manning
Brees
Rodgers
Ryan
Eli
Romo
Ben
Flacco
Rivers
Schaub

Guys I would rather have but still unproven

Luck
Wilson
Capernick
Griffin (although injury concern)
Dalton (only because of salary)

The bolded guys I would put Staff ahead of but they are all kinda in the same class with Schaub being at the bottom. Of your unproven list, Luck is the only guy I might take over him. Too much unknown with those guys.

Chad Pennington had a high completion %, but I think we can all agree he sucked. One thing to keep in mind with Stafford is that his arm is so strong he will attempt throws that most QB's can only dream about. Yards per attempt is a useless QB stat.
