Stafford in Focus

But weren't Houston and Delmas part of that top 5 secondary at one point?

Lions have no depth. They still don't. Go ahead and throw out names like Slay, Bentley, Mathis, Ibedigo. Inexperienced, average, over the hill, and just not a good player. Lions did nothing to address this area of the field. Don't expect a good secondary again, for the 10th year running.

They were never a top 5. They won't even be middle of the pack this year. To think other wise is not realistic.

What I mean is that LKP is saying the secondary was top 5, and is now happy that Delmas and Houston are gone, the very gentlemen that supposedly made them top 5.

Nope. They won't. I don't know if they'll ever have a good secondary in my lifetime. Again, they have spent something like 3 picks in the top 2 rounds on secondary help in the last two decades. It's a gross stat.

Greenwood and Green and Vaughn are good depth. Vet experience and measurables. Greenwood played well when called upon, Green did solid.

Slay and Bentley can grow and be good CBs. Slay has the skillset for sure to be a good CB this year in this system.

Mathis played well last year. 6th lowest completion %. He just needs a couple picks to go with it. No drop off should be expected between 33 and 34.

Ihedigbo is here for run support and blitz. And Ihedigbo may allow more completions but doesn't give up the big mistakes like Delmas.

They got hurt too much. 24 games of injured secondary was alot of Delmas and Houston hurt. 2012 was all over though with Bentley, Florence, Lacey and Spievey too. I liked them as players but getting rid of oft injured players needs to happen. And Houston is still hurt and Delmas will always have the knee problem.

Jones, Broyles and Bentley are next if they have another injury season.

Right, I was agreeing with you but making it clear. I knew what you meant. Your cool dubbsco

The secondary is clearly the weakest link on this team. There is no stat, no game film, no scouts perspective or coaches take that argues that point.

Our best hope for a solid secondary this season is that the D-Line brings so much pressure, our CBs just need to be able to catch erratically thrown passes and not much more. If they have to actually cover and defend, we're in a lot of trouble.

I'm sure LKP will argue that point, and at the end of the season make up a whole slew of reasons this secondary would have been top three ... BUT.....

.. but it changes nothing. Short of a miracle, this secondary is going to be eaten alive by Cutler and Rodgers twice a year, putting us into a lot of shootouts if we're going to win.

And we have the likes of Jason Jones who has never had more than 5 sacks in his career at DE. We have to rely on Ansah to step up huge. And im not talking about 10 sacks...im talking huge....like 16+ sacks.

Not necessarily sacks only..not referring to pressures etc. But he needs TFL. Many many of those..

We have Ansah,Fairley,Suh and more blitzing. The sacks will be fine even if Jones gets like 2.

Ansah needs like 10 sacks and more consistent pressure. Year 2 he can do that. He almost did that year 1 if not for injuries.

Suh-8
Ansah-10
Fairley-7
Jones-2
Blitz-9 (we had 7.5 last year without really blitzing, so this is being lenient)
Taylor-3
Reid-1

That's 40 sacks with nothing from the 4th DE.

I don't know why you equate more blitzing with better results. Seattle and SF blitzed less than basically everyone else in the NFL, and still had better results when they did.

If and when the Lions have their blitz picked up, they are cooked. The secondary can't handle 1 on 1 matchups, or being on an island. They don't have the skill for that.

Lions blitzed the 2nd least (Jax). Plus we added better blitzers in Van Noy and Ihedigbo. Yes there will be better results wiht more blitzing (even just a little but it seems it will be a lot and better personnel to blitz). It's not just more blitzing.

Seattle had 40 more blitzes than us. San Fran had 30 more blitzes than Detroit.

And Detroit was 7th best in the league last year on the blitz. And they've upgraded with Ihedigbo and Van Noy.

im hoping taylor gets more....we need a guy to step up on the outside....no reason whyh they cant with all the 1 v1 match ups they gets with suh/fairley inside.

and like I said....if jared allen can get close to 30 sacks with no DTs then my expectations for Ansah (a top 5 pick) is to get atleast 15+ sacks with arguably the best DT duo in football playing next to you.

I think Ansah does have 15 sack potential. But truly we need him to get 10. What we need and potential are two different things. Same with Ebron. He has 800-900 yard potential as a rookie, we only need about 650 though.

Who's blitz? Do you're saying Ansah will get 10 without any blitzes? Same with Suh..you're numbers don't add up. Nonetheless, you're the best.

The Lions dummy. Sacks from CBs,Safetie and LBs. 9 total. And yes they do add up to 40.

Where above did you mention CB, S and LB? I take it back you're not the best..no way the Lions get 40 sacks..teams will throw quick, like last year because there's always a guy open.
