Stafford in Focus

So let me ask you this. If healthy, was the Detroit Lions defense better than San Francisco's?

Of course it was!! G.O.A.T. BITCH!!

'85 Bears......NO
'13 Seahawks......NO
70's Steel Curtain.......NO

2011 Detroit Lions.......YES!!!!

so they had a defense with no depth. They go from top 5 to 22nd in less than 6 weeks. That is not a good defense!

Good depth can/will help you win games every year in the NFL. It's become a depth league with the number of injuries every team sustains every year.

The problem with LKP is that he thinks that its just BAD LUCK if you have to use your depth. To him, its like a video game.....an injury is bad luck and if a backup has to play its a reason for an excuse.

No excuses in the NFL. The Lions lack depth, especially in the secondary. It's evident and bites them in the ass EVERY year. It's not bad luck, its bad planning and bad management.

Think of how true almost every LKP statement would be if your computer automatically replaced the word "luck" in his posts with "bad management"?

HUH?? Works a lot better that way, doesn't it?

EVERYONE got hurt. You can't overcome that. Oh wait but we did, going 3-1 down the stretch. All hail Stafford.

Some depth Detroit has. 3rd string depth. No team has that. Greenwood and Green did well. Good depth. It was Houston playing hurt and 3rd string nickel and safety that were the problems.

Willie Young was great depth. But Jones and Ansah got hurt. Now you are down to 3rd string. Taylor did ok but was a rookie. DE and CB combined added up.

And WR was a combo of WR 1, 2, 3, Young's insanity and bigger fish to fry in the offseason at DE, Safety, guard and RB.

3-1 finish including making teams miss playoffs and go .500.

Plenty of injuries caused that 5-7 finish.

they were healthy enough to beat the shitty teams but lost to every good team. They were "paper Lions" in 2011 which was evident when they went 4-12 the following year.

Lions secondary has been healthy 25 out of the last 49 games the last 3 seasons.

In the 25 healthy games 16-9.
In the 24 unhealthy games 5-19 (beat Min,at Oak,SD in 2011, beat Stl and Seattle in 2012)

And the health is debatable against Tampa,at GB in losses since Houstons injuries caused them.

Slay,Mathis,Bentley,Quin,Ihedigbo. Stay healthy please.

I've always contended that bad players get hurt more often than good ones. A guy is out of position and twists his knee/ankle/etc. A guy gets blown up on a block because he is too small. And some teams take players who are often injured then use their IR as an excuse for poor play.

I could be wrong - it happens.

Football is a rough sport and we have had bad db injury bad luck. Houston and Delmas injured a lot. Big reason they are gone. Bentley will be next if it happens again to him

192 YPG (5th at time)
10 TDs (3rd at time)
15 ints (tied 2nd at time)
69 Passer rating (4th at time)

Top 5 through 10 games prior to injuries in 2011.

every team gets injuries....especially in the secondary which typically consists of the smallest players on the field. It just goes to show you that that the Lions had no depth.

Lions had 24 games of very injured secondaries. And when healthy they win. Lions get multiple injuries. Most teams don't most of their secondary missing half the time over three seasons or unable to practice.

The repeat injured in Houston and Delmas are gone. We'll see who stays healthy this year.
