Stafford Versus Winning Teams

The Lions did many things well. 3rd down conversions offense, limiting turnovers, special teams, bend but don't break, 4th Quarter play, scored enough points to win 9 games, Stafford 100.5 rating before the finger injury. Played enough defense to win 9 games especially in the middle of the season. Some losses too like at Houston, at Chi, Ten they played good defense.

The run game. Injury. Abdullah and Riddick. And Reiff and Swanson some too
Run D, injury (Ansah, Levy) and late season flop. They could use a better closed end
Completion percentage, some injury some style of play by the defense allowing underneath to avoid big plays against them.

This a good team. They made the playoffs. They beat all the other NFC playoff cusp teams to go to the playoffs. They are a good team. You focused on the two things they did poorly and basically that was due to injuries.

It doesn't matter. Stop cutting and pasting the same BS.

Win a playoff game. That's all that matters. Period.

Win a Super Bowl is all that matters. Lions are close. Real close.

And by the way, when we win a playoff game next season, you will all change the bar to winning a Super Bowl I'm sure.

Fine. I'll welcome that day with open arms.

I'm sure you will. But you would have been wrong about this team's capabilities and cheering for a team you were unjustly negative too. Just an FYI.

Their coach literally said this week that they arent close to winning a super bowl lol. The coach.....but leave it to LKP to know more than the coach.

Wait did LKP say winning a superbowl is all that matters, then complain about people that will say winning a superbowl is all that matters? Looks like the robot is broken. Time to reboot, making less sense than normal.

It's coach speak and a team motivator. He knows they are close with proper health.

People will change their expectations. The winning a playoff game people. The playoff win alone will no longer matter if they don't win the Super Bowl. How can you not follow the logic?

Im good with them consistently making a playoff....if its deserved. I think rd 1 vs an average at best team and getting whooped on proved that this is not a playoff calibur team. Along with the several other statistical comparisons i gave. But youre a blind homer so im sure youll turn a blind eye to all that.

The Lions deserved to make the playoffs. They beat all the playoff cusp teams in the NFC including Vikings and Redskins.

And like I said, you are only looking at the negative stats and indicators. There were many positives. Turnovers, ST, Stafford pre injury, defense middle of the season, run game with Abdullah

The Seattle game the Lions were dealing with injuries. Reiff, Swanson, Riddick are big reasons they made the playoffs. Missing that game was huge.

The game was also much closer than the score. It was 13-6 early in the 4th Quarter. Then the Lions uncharacteristically had a bad 4th Quarter allowing two TDS. Baldwin made two great catches in tight coverage and a one handed TD grab. Plus Richardson had two early in the game including a TD with a facemask by Richardson on Wilson. The score says blowout but it wasn't a blow out.

LKP, the jig is up man.

Here's your first post after the loss:
"Drops, penalties and pathetic run defense

Refs were terrible as expected but Detroit couldn't score or stop Rawls

Need a dt, de and nickel cb. I am off the whitehead and levy train. Inconsistent and now average after injury.

D needs some infused talent. Offense needs healthy Rbs and oline and get their head out of their ass

Disappointing end. They need to figure out how to get better

5 losses to road playoff teams. 34-6 was those teams records at home. Mission impossible"

Fast-forward to today:

Tom's right man. You need a reboot.

And hughes I notice you dog on the Lions for scoring late. You need to really observe what actually happened.

The Colts scored with 37 second left. The only reason the Colts took the lead is because Prater missed an easy XP. 2 min drives are important in the league and Stafford led a great one for the FG. This wasn't luck or a fluke. This was skill. Lions were up 21-3, 21-10 at half, up 28-21. Colts tied it at 28, then the Lions took the lead again with a big TD answer but Prater missed the field goal. The Lions were leading almost the entire game. The Colts are the ones that got the late lead after being down most of the game. Lions earned this victory by leading most of the game and the late two minute drive field goal.

The Titans scored with 1:13 left converting a 4th down despite good coverage. The Lions were leading the entire game. And again 4 points taken off the board for the Ebron OPI. Are you docking the Titans for this win for scoring late?

Eagles game. Slay made a great play forcing the fumble and the Lions recovery of it was good. The Lions got the ball with 2:34 left to play. Lots of time. Stafford made a great play to Tate and Prater nailed the FG. The Lions also were leading most of the game. The Lions were up 14-0 and 21-10 at one point. The Eagles nabbed the lead in the 4th for the first time. Then the Lions took it back with the Slay play. This wasn't some fluke Lions win. They dominated most of the game. Wentz even had a chance with ample time to get a FG but Slay picked it off when Wentz tried to get it all deep. This is a legit as they come win.

Rams game. This was a back and forth game. Tied at half. Lions were up 21-14 at one point, down 28-21 and then scored a TD with 6 minutes left. After that TD, Lions forced a Rams punt. Then the Lions got a FG with the ball with 5 minutes left to play and ate the clock down to 1:29. Lions led by 3. The Rams had a chance then Bush made a great pick. Another earned Lions win in a back and forth game.

Skins game. 3-3 at half. Lions built a 13-3 lead with good 3rd Quarter. Skins came back and scored with only 1:05 left. Lions controlled the game and gave up the late lead. Then Stafford torched the Skins bad D and took it back with a great TD. Caldwell smartly saved his timeouts for this. Another earned win for Detroit.

at Minnesota. Detroit led 10-3 at half. They led 10-9 after Vikings missed an XP (Prater karma). Detroit then got a FG and led 13-9. Detroit forced a turnover on downs by Vikings while up 13-9. Then Minnesota had the miracle comeback. They scored with 23 second left. Detroit led most of the game and then Vikings got the lead super late. Then it was Prater time 59 yards. Didn't miss from 50+ all season. Worth his money with that kick. Lions got the ball. You have to score a TD to end it in OT. Vikings had plenty of chances to stop but Detroit marched down the field and Tate stiff armed Harrison Smith. Legit win. Not a fluke even with a 59 yarder. Lead all game and then OT domination. Earned Lions win

Jags game. 9-9 at half. Detroit led 16-9 and 16-12. Jags scored late 3rd to go up 19-16. Detroit came back and scored a TD with 10 minutes to play in the 4th. They led 23-19. This wasn't some crazy last minute comeback. Detroit got a stop. Then they added a FG. 26-19. Then the Lions forced a pick. Detroit led a bunch in this game, back and forth first half and Detroit never gave up the lead after taking it with 10 minutes left to play. Earned win.

Vikings home game. Lions went up 7-0 quickly. Lions led 10-7. They seem to be winning or tied in at half in every single game this year. Hughes is acting like we are down all the time. I just proved that we were not, in fact, it was quite the opposite. Vikings tied with a FG. Vikings took the lead 13-10 with another FG with 5:14 left in the 3RD QUARTER. Detroit and the Vikings trade punts but the Lions get the ball with 5 minute to play. The Lions go down the field and get the game tying field goal. Minnesota got the ball with 1:45 left to play. The game was tied. Plenty of time for Vikings to get a FG. Then Darius Slay, a really good CB, made another late game play. He's a good player, good players make plays. Slay got the pick and set up the GW FG. This was earned again. Lions led at half and early 3rd and got a FG with plenty of time left on the clock to the game. Don't dock the Lions because Slay made a good play and the Vikings have a good defense. Lions played good D as well and won the game because of it. Earned win.

Saints game. 28-13 in the Dome Lions. Saints have 2nd ranked PPG offense in the league and are good at home. Detroit earned this win.

Bears game 20-17. Lions up 10-3 at half. Lions up 13-3 in 3rd Quarter. Then Stafford gets a stupid injury on a nothing play hitting hands with Floyd. Bears take the lead with 7 minutes left in the 4th because Stafford is injured and throws a duck for an easy pick 6. Lions got the ball back with 7 minutes left to play. Stafford grits it out and runs for the TD. Up 20-17. This wasn't a late fluke score, this was yet another legit TD. The Bears had over 3 minutes left. The Lions held strong at their own 44 yard line and force the turnover on downs. Legit win

Every single Lions game was a legit win with the Lions leading most of the game. As you can see, they led for most of the game in basically every win. This wasn't some fluke with Detroit comebacks. This was Detroit winning the game most of the game and then playing well at the end. We deserved to be in the playoffs by winning 9 games.

And then the Titans game they blew a lead while they led all the game. The Giants and Packers games could have gone either way. There was a breaking point in the early 4th in those games. Cowboys game, 21-21 at half but Lions were outmanned with Slay out in second half.

Detroit is a legit good team and a playoff team.

i dont recall ever dogging on the lions for scoring late. Your idea of what really happened and mine are very different. We go up in several games......and then we go into a shell offensively and put WAY too much pressure on our defense. Caldwell and Coots strategy is planned assuming we have the Steel Wall Pittsburgh defense of the 70s or something. And it wasnt just a 1 time thing. They did it over and over and over again...and it should have cost them their jobs. But their savior, Stafford swooped in to save the day. It has been factually proven you are more likely to get hit by lightning twice in your life than the lions were to win those 8 games from behind lol. You can call that whatever you want....Ill call it a bummer since we could have got caldwell out of here and started the process of building this team the right way sooner. Some (most) will call it luck. Youll (the only person) call it superior talent. The reason youre the only one on your side of the ball....is because youre wrong...again.

They were a playoff team...you dont need to prove that they were a playoff team. I know they were. I think we all did a much better job of proving to you they didnt belong there:

Blow out loss to an average at best team
Bottom feeder run game
Set records in opposing Qbs pass completion %
give up more points than we score
0-5 vs playoff teams. Or is it 6 now?....who knows who cares....

It all equates to not being very good....end of story.

yes, all of the good playoff teams are still playing

Read the play by play. Lions led almost all the time in the wins. They earned and were the better team for all 9 victories. That is a good team. You are acting like they were losing basically all game and had a miracle come back. That was not the case. Look at the leads and when the Lions took them. It wasn't always with seconds to play. If read what I wrote you would understand that.

The 5 playoff teams we lost too in 6 games. 5 were on the road. 34-6 records for them at home. It was mission impossible especially with the injuries we had.

Many of the losses were close games not blowouts. It came down to one play or two in the mid 4th. 3rd and 10 Giants down 10-6, Giants hit Beckham for 25 yards against backup Asa Jackson. Much different if we had Slay. 3rd 10 Packers with 7 minutes to play down 23-17 and Rodgers does that bullshit hurry up for 12 men on the field. Cheap mother fucker. Dallas tied at half. But Lions were outmanned due to injuries.

You are only looking at the negative stats. you need to look at both the positives, negative and the play by play I showed you. That shows the Lions are good team. I proved they were a good team.

You are all bunch of non-observant haters. I'm right on this. I will always be right on this.

And the Seattle game was 13-6 into the 4th Quarter. Lions didn't do themselves any favors with run D. But here is the thing. Rawls was really good last year. Injured earlier this year. He is finally healthy and I think Seattle smartly saved him for the playoff run. Seattle had 5 miracle catches including the backbreaker bomb to Baldwin toe tap on the sidelines with the Lions in good coverage. Detroit had 5 drops. Good players, just 5 separate players with one bad play in the game that added up to a nightmare. Again Seattle is tough at home. Detroit had a ton of injuries.

The Lions are razor thin close to being a Super Bowl team. It was damn close. We were not ran off the field, the games were damn close (even the losses to road playoff teams)

Actually, they were run off the field in Seattle.
