Stupid Tigers Trade Porcello for Cespedes + trade Suarez for Simple Simon from reds

Key words to Toms post are . "that a team is willing to trade " ....Like the Marlins would trade a 23 year old gold glover who has just about everything you look for in a ball player . Same with Calhoun , Angels would never trade him

It's hard to imagine them trading a young player, Miggy 'cough' Miggy.

melky Cabrera sucked until he started roiding out.....not so sure that's the guy you want to offer a contract to. You give him 1 year and he could be banned the entire time hes here.

You're so clueless , they sure as hell wouldnt of taken Rick Porcello for Yelich . So tell me , who do you think we could have traded for Yelich .

Did I say that? NOPE. But they have other trade able parts, not much mind you but anything can happen..as they say another teams junk...

Exactly , hes seeking a 5 year deal . No way you offer him 5 years .

Well Toms post stated who out there could we have traded for that a team is willing to trade and that we could get for a decent price ( like porcello ) . Its easy to just throw out names , when none of that matters .

Well thats why you are just a casual fan , obviously they are doing something right considering the success we have had .

I've been an engaged fan since 1966. WS titles = success to this organization presently. That's their goal. You disagree? Giants = success. Tigers = not so much. Getting swept out of the playoffs by the O's = success? Losing ALCS G2 to the Red Sox on a GS and the series 2-4 = success? Getting swept by the Giants in the WS = success?

We have different expectations for the organization in its present state.

sorry to crush your hopes and dreams....but this organization went to bed with JV. Either he returns to form or else were destined to be perennial playoff losers. Moving your #4 pitcher (that might be a #3 pitcher on another team) for an everyday starting outfielder has little to no bearing on changing the playoff outcome.

Nick Markakis would have been perfect for this team...I guess just too much money...

It will when the outfielder is gone in 2016. Or, worse, signed by the Tigers. Along with Simon.

The Tigers don't want to pay the luxury tax, which is almost certainly why we havent signed any major FAs. We're just about to bump up to it.

So of course we'll probably end up signing Max anyways and pole-vaulting over it.

Top of order LH bat that gets on base and is under team control that plays in the OF. I think players like that are a highly valued commodity. How many guys are out there that even fit that description let alone that a team would be willing to trade?
Well one that fits some of that description that I wanted the tigers to go after was Jason Heyward. Perfect fit for what they need and could be signed longterm since he is only 25. They have enough pieces that they could have gotten him.

You think the Tigers had enough to get Heyward? The Tigers don't have anybody close to Shelby Miller.

Im giving it a we didn't win shit with porcello and suarez so im fine with trying something different approach.

Same feeling I had when the dumped fielder for kinsler....fielder didn't do shit for years....had no idea why people were so pissy when we let his fat ass go.

Ricky hasn't done shit for years. His best year was last year when he still only won half his starts and we didn't even use him in the postseason....that's his BEST year. im fine with using him to fill a dire OF need with one of the only options on the market.

It wasn't trading Fielder, it was the value.

Matt Kemp (30, FA 2020), Tim Federowicz (27, FA 2019) and $30 Mil to Padres for Ysamani Grandal (26, FA 2019), Joe Weiland (24, FA 2019) and Zack Eflin (20, FA ????)

Kemp is due $108.25 Mil over the next 5 years. LAD sent $30 Mil along, so the Padres liability in this deal is $78.25 over the next 5 years, or $15.65 Mil per year. Kemp is a top 10 OFer, especially when not playing CF.

LAD received a future All Star catcher, a mid rotation starter and a true prospect with tons of upside.

DET trades Fielder (29, FA 2021) and $30 Mil for Ian Kinsler (31, FA 2018 w/out option). Fielder was owed $168 Mil over 7 years ($24 Mil a year). TEX is liable for $138 Mil over the 7 years, or $19.7 Mil per year. Despite fans trashing him, Fielder when healthy is still a top 5 offensive 1B.

Ian Kinsler was owed $62 Mil for 4 years, or $15.5 Mil. Which is what is directly owed to Kinsler. Add the $30 Mil as the libaility, and it still costs DET $23 Mil per year to have Kinsler, who is about an average 2B with declining skills.

The argument was not about Kinsler in general. Most people recognize, except in the Kemp trade, that you have to take on a bad contract to get rid of a bad contract. However, it is my opinion and many others, DET should have received more in the trade. Maybe even a relief pitcher or prospect.

Is the Dodger's GM that much smarter than DD that he got more of a return on Kemp than DET did on Fielder? The Dodgers didn't take on ANY salary obligations and took on top notch talent.

I wonder what assets/prospects are available after 2015 to trade for more 1 year rentals.

Heyward will be eligible for free agency next offseason, so St. Louis is giving up a combined decade of team control over the 24-year-old Miller and 22-year-old Jenkins for one season of Heyward and the possibility of draft pick compensation if he signs elsewhere.
