Suh suitors

Iupati is not much of a pass blocker. Great run blocker though.

Clint Boling from Cincy is a cheaper option. Can play center too.

Boling is a very similar player to Iupati. Good run-blocker, poor pass-blocker. If we are picking up a new linemen, it makes more sense to get someone who is stronger in pass-blocking. Since the team is passing 60% of the time, we'll get more value out of a pass-blocker.

I think if the team is serious about improving the O-line, Orlando Franklin should be the top target. He's been a great pass-blocker since his sophomore year, and he's been really good at both RT and OG. To boot, he's also a solidly above average run-blocker. Denver probably shouldn't let him go, but they have a lot of bigger name free agents to take care of already.

pay top $ for the guy I wanted to draft in rd 2 and pay cheap for a bunch of years. And that's why mayhew blows....

You realize he would still be a free agent right now. No matter if we drafted him or not. Gosder was fine, Sims good 2010-2013, Waddle good in 2013. 2014 injuries.

Gosder sucked
Sims was good 2010-2013
Waddle rarely played and graded poorly in almost all of his rare performances
2014 LG, C and RT all sucked....and it was rarely due to injury.

take your rose colored glasses off.

Agreed.

Actually, if Sims took a healthy pay cut from last year, he would be good depth to have. Need a new G and T this year.....minimum.

Waddle did not grade poorly in 2013. He was good in 2013. +5.5 grade mostly from run blocking (average pass blocking). He didn't grade poorly in 2014 either playing 561 snaps (especially pass blocking was good). Played 7.5 games in 2014. Two bad run days (Buffalo and at Arizona in 2014 for Waddle). We ran well at Zona still.

Gosder did well for us especially 2011 and 2012. He ranked similar to Franklin in 2011 at RT. They both did really well in 2012. +16.7 Franklin and Gosder both. Clearly hughes didn't watch Gosder play.

And Sims was good until this year. Sims battled injury in first half of season and came on stronger in second half. Bell average 4.4 YPC in second half of season.

The only reason we would get a tackle is due to Waddle's health not talent. And if Waddle stays healthy he could easily beat out a rookie tackle. Then you'll be complaining about a round 1 or 2 pick sitting on the bench even if Reiff and Waddle are playing well.

And the only reason we get a new left guard is due to Sims a free agent and age.

Waddle is what he is.......a good 3rd T. Nothing wrong with that.....he was a great find by Mayhew.....UDFA that has starting level talent is a great find....at any position. However, even when healthy.....he was just average last year.

For the Lions offense to take the next step....the line needs to be good.....not average. Need an upgrade at RT & LG to make that happen.

They were good in 2013 with Waddle. Waddle was good. And a new center is here already in Swanson for an upgrade over Raiola. We'll get a new left guard. I'll be interested to see if a rookie tackle can beat out Waddle.

Pretty broad spectrum there, isn't it?

A rookie?

Makes a big difference if that rookie is a 1st round pick or another UDFA, doesn't it? I'd be surprised, if the Lions pick a RT if the first 2 rounds, if he didn't wipe the floor with Waddle.

youd hope the pick would ATLEAST be more reliable than waddle.

Lions have a history of grooming picks very very slowly...even good ones aka reiff at fullback when we had holes all over the place on the oline.

Reiff and Warford should be the only ones safe. Im not so sure Samsonite should be handed over the starting C role....he probably cant be worse than Crayola I suppose.

I want Reiff on the Right with Wardaddy. Samsonite I'm okay with at center with another year in an nfl strength and conditioning program. I actually like Samsonite, not as a stud but as a starter caliber center.

Peterman was the only hole in 2012. Sims, Backus and Gosder all played well in 2012. Reiff wasn't playing center. Peterman and Yarno had ties and Peterman was coming off a solid 2011. They used Reiff some but that's a previous regime too. The 1st rounder won't be handed the job over Waddle.

Hopefully the rookie RT stays healthier than Waddle. That is Waddle's only problem, health. That isn't a given either that the rookie will be healthy. Talent wise, Waddle could beat out a rookie 1st round pick. Waddle has the size, will have NFL strength, NFL coaching technique and has produced in this league.

He's been in the league for two years. Calm down with Waddle.

Waddle is fine if he can stay healthy, but to this point he can't. He's also not good enough to still be a solid player playing through injury. He missed only 6 games this year (seemed like more), but he wasn't any good for several of the games he played due to lingering issues. Waddle would make an ideal swing tackle and 6th lineman. I just don't think you we can trust him to be your expected starter all year.

This. Nothing at all wrong with getting a good 6th OL or 3rd T as an UDFA. Someone who could step in and perform at an NFL level if needed.

I just don't want him as an everyday RT anymore....even if healthy.
