The FIX is in!!!

There could/should have been three flags thrown on that play. There was holding on Pettigrew before the interference happened and then Dez running onto the field with his helmet off. The fact that the refs only called one and then reversed it after announcing to the world that it was interference is BS. It is also BS that Caldwell didn't try and go for it on 4 and 1 instead of trying to draw them offsides. It is also BS that our punter went into shank mode, didn't he do that in another big game, maybe last year? This team wasn't going much further with this pathetic O-line but I was really hoping to break that playoff win streak with this one.
It was a miracle that our O-line held up as well as it did these last few games. We definitely need to draft a couple O-linemen in this draft. A starting OG and maybe a starting RT, if not just good OT depth that can challenge for a starting spot.

Was an unfortunate drop off this past season.

RT was a revolving door due to injuries.

Warford, despite playing here and there, was basically done in November due to injury.

Dom is an asshole and probably should retire this off-season.

Sims is getting old.

I'm hardly an expert on schemes but I can't imagine a transition from Linehan to Lombardi without some sort of adjustment period.

Starters got injured, backups to those starters got injured.

Just a total mess.

Ok Fix may be a tad strong..... But the NFL does Protect certain teams more then others... That was on full display yesterday....

If Caldwell goes for it and it gets stuffed everyone is yapping at him about punting and pinning them deep with our defense.... Either call is fine in my opinion.. Heck on third and one we play faked it and tried to hit Pettigrew... Penalty was just to obvious I guess NFL. Oh wait its Dallas in the game... LOL....

I always hear about the good olines who work together all season, several seasons. But too many games where we didn't have the starting 5 play. No doubt that effected it..

oline played well yesterday. Stafford played better than most games hes played this year. Lombardi is clueless is why the offense couldn't put up points.

You know when we first drafted Matt I always wondered why they didn't let him throw deep. I was basically begging him to go deep..and then when he did realized I now understand why he didn't throw deep..he can't. His accuracy is piss poor..

Maybe after the new coaches got here they decided Matt needed to be a game manager and play safe..there's got to be more than the OC not opening it up. Maybe they realize Matt is not good enough to do that?

In any event as much as I don't like Lombardi I think Matt plays a role in what we can and can't do..

They didn't fix games just some refs would call fouls on certain guys they disliked. I think. So why the first call in the first place if it was fixed..maybe only some of the refs were in on this fix?

First, the NBA didn't fix games at all, that's for sure.

However, saying they had NBA refs who called fouls on certain guys they didn't like is not even close to what actually went down.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim_Donaghy

Tim Donaghy spent nearly a year in jail for point shaving. He was officiating games and making calls with the specific intended purposes of rigging the final score of games ot affect gambling on behalf of book makers.

Yes, there was an NBA ref on the take, and he did affect the outcome of many games, including the Suns losing to the Lakers in the conference finals.

Why does everyone point to him..here's a video you can watch and see why this guy hated Iverson. maybe him admitting is not enough for you..

I have seen this video before, but there is more to it than all of this.

Donaghy tried to cover his ass, because he couldn't fully roll over on gamblers. He claimed that he was "just passing information" to gamblers based on ref tendancies.

However, he pleaded guilty to wire fraud, which is a lot different than what he claims in interviews happened.

But more importantly, this man also claimed the NBA was ordering refs to fix games for ratings, including making sure the Nets would beat the Raptors to face Miami for better ratings.

So if we're going to assume that he's honest about what he did and didn't do, why would we assume his claims of the NBA fixing games was dishonest? And if the NBA is willing to fix games (allegedly) for ratings, why not the NFL?

I have no idea what happened during last nights game, but I do know it's awfully fishy and the public has more reason right now to question the integrity of the game than not to. Any questions about fixing at this point are fair game in my book.

I get it but the fact is what I said is true. The ref had it in for a player, Iverson. No apology necessary.

Oh, I am not arguing he had it in for Iverson. Shit, I hated Iverson too.. I'd have let guys bust him up and looked the other way. He was a prick.

What I am arguing is that is not even close to the sum of all the parts here.

It was Suns/Spurs in the Conference Semifinals, thanks for bringing up bad memories

Okay..got it. I understand the "if one sport was rigged why not another" argument. I just wish we would have made the stop on 4th and 6..ugh.

Agreed. And without sounding too "conspiracy nut" let me add a little to that very thought.

As we all know, I was military, and even worked for a short time on White House security detail. I was never assigned to the President or anything like that, just general security, but we learned a shitload about protocol in protecting the administration.

I am not a big fan of the 9/11 conspiracy theories, but it always amazed me that on the morning of 9/11, the president was reading books to a school when he was told about the attacks. He spent another 30 or so minutes, before getting on a plane to be flown to a secure location.

This violates every protocol and policy in the book. The presidential travel schedule is published in advance, so anyone (terrorists included) would have known where he was at that exact time, and the only reason to not believe that school could be a target for an attack, is if you already know exactly what the targets really are.

Bringing it back around...

The Cowboys took some big big gambles against the #2 defense in football on 4th down, and it paid off. Plenty of time left on the clock, the offense wasn't moving the ball well in the 2nd half... there is just no reason to go for it there on 4th and 6 and risk the field position... unless you already know for fact you will get the first down, even if a mystery flag needs to be thrown.

And that is probably the weakest damned argument you will ever hear me make on this board. I don't even like the sound of it as I am typing it. But the fact is, you take the biggest risks when you know you have a safety net, a helmet, an airbag, or a ref in your pocket.

At the end of the day, it stings. I think we should have won that game. I think the refs did influence it. I am angry enough about it that I am probably seeing shit that isn't there. But we all knew there was a damned good chance we wouldn't see another round of the playoffs too.. and that's exactly what happened.

We look forward to free agency, and the draft, and then pre-season... and it's just another day in the life of a Lions fan.

Bush knew?

Or the other side of that could be he didn't want to upset the kids.

I know what this reminds me of now..the phantom call on Abdul-Jabbar. Yep.

I really really hate pro basketball, and can only occasionally stomach college basketball, so I honestly know that one. Did that have something to do with Lambier?

Yep. About to win the first title..the year before we won 2. Jabbar does his hook shot with 14 seconds left, missed. No foul, but one was called. Even Riley the Lakers coach later said it was a phantom call. I haven't watched the NBA in about 10 years myself..

I for one question the integrity of the game, the patriots win the SB after 9/11 the saints win after hurricane Katrina I mean c'mon man it's all about the ratings and the feel good story lines..damn I thought maybe they'd let the lions get one eventually after the city has become a third world end of the world zombie attraction and old man ford even died maybe they'd finally let em in on one but nope couldn't out do jones, Christie and a packer cowboy frozen tundra ratings banaza I guess,, maybe next year! Yeah sure..
