The Official Army vs ][V][ichigan Game Thread

Team is still missing Runyan and DPJ. Hopefully they get healthy the next 2 weeks because the offense needs them badly.

I just do not understand the playcalling on 3rd and 4th down ?
Also are they afraid to throw at all with Mccaffery? Just curious.

Jim really made some poor game decisions also. Differently not worth 9 million. Jim and Gattis were awful.

DPJ is a great talent. That said, receiver is about the only position group that can afford to lose someone. Collins is probably the best receiver on this team whether DPJ is playing or not.

Wouldn't it be nice to give those guys a chance to catch some deep passes? Or, a QB that doesn't constantly overthrow them by 10 yards when they are open?

I thought in those two crucial stops Army got when Charbonet was stopped on 3rd and 4th down, Michigan should have thrown the ball, yes.

Actually, when they were in field-goal range, they should have done the field goal attempt on fourth down.

Yes. It would be nice. That's why I said a couple of times that I wish they'd give DM a shot.

friend of mine said shea was playing hurt. nothing confirmed though

Oh yeah I'm with you. I wish he was the starter from day 1. He's the future.

Seriously I wish Patterson never had come to Michigan. When is Jim going to Trust who he has recruited ? I feel Jim always wants to have someone different then he recruited. I guess I understand Jake Rudock. I just don?t get going after Patterson. Dylan could have had so much experience right now if he was the starter from last season. Now we still have no real clue if he is any good. With Patterson ball security issues and dinged up status Dylan probably will see some time this year. We need to see if he can throw.

Dylan broke his collar bone in something like his 3rd game appearance last season. That wouldn't have been very much experience. Then the team's record would have been a lot worse last season, possibly a losing record. Do you really want that?

Well, if McCaffery started from day 1, he may or not have broken his collarbone. Everything changes from that point on.

But, if all things were equal, and we assume Dylan starts from day 1 last season, and the team finishes a little bit worse than last year... Yeah, I would want that. What's the difference? They didn't win anything last year.

You mean IF Dylan had broken his collar game 3 games into the season last year?

Michigan would've probably went 5-7 or something and that would've seriously hurt recruiting.

Or

Do you mean IF Dylan had miraculously stayed healthy all season even though he got hurt in his mop-up duty last season? Dude was seriously underweight last season. He would not have held up, then Milton would've been getting the experience.

I'd rather not watch Michigan lose. Losing more is never good.

My guess is that Michigan would still be 2-0 at this point this season. I don't know, though, because I haven't seen Dylan pass the ball. Patterson's passing hasn't been great, but he has completed enough passes to make Michigan 2-0.

Just watched the entire game thanks to big10 football in 60. That's a really excellent option for rewatching games. I had to work yesterday until 2. I tried to stay insulated from the score, but everyone was talking about how horrible Michigan was playing and that they were losing, so I gave up on that.

The 3 fumbles lost were very bad. IF Michigan had any ball control whatsoever and IF the refs make the right call on the Metellus scoop and score, then this game isn't that much of a worry. Yeah, Michigan still probably would not have covered the 23 points and there were some sorry ass throws in there. The one fumble might not have ever happened if the ref makes the right call on the Army fumble there.

It categorically would not have happened.

The next play would have been a kick off following the Michigan touchdown.

Mettelus was clearly not down when he gained control of the ball. But I suspect the refs blew the whistle calling the play dead. I don't know what the rule is regarding this. If the play has been blown dead, even in error, then is the only option to bring the ball back?

I guess when we average rushing 2.9 yards per game or better under Harbaugh we are 46-1. If we rush under 2.9 yards per game we were 0-13. 108 yards on 45 carries is 2.4 yards per carry verses Army. So we had a bad game on the ground but found a way to win
1-13 now.

That's my understanding. If there is a clear recovery by the defense they get the ball at that spot but anything after that never happened. It makes sense, it just sucks when they blow it dead instead of letting it play out. I get that they need to try their best to get it right the first time since they have to have definitive proof to overturn it. They screwed up and it damn near cost them the game. I'd be willing to bet that if they get that right michigan kicks the field goal instead of going for it in the red zone and it's a 10 point regulation win instead of a 2 ot 3 point win and they may not have been penalized in the rankings as much.
