The Official Round 1 Draft Thread

You know, I like the two projected starters at DT. I don't like the depth, though. We still have the rest of the draft and I'm sure we could pick someone up in FA. Our DC last year seemed to be able to plug anyone in at any spot and succeed. I'm not worried.

Give me a guy like Michael Bennett or Xavier Cooper in the 2nd round, and I'll feel a lot better about our depth.

I know the popular round 2 pick is a RB, but I don't think we need to do it that high.

And even with these two new O-linemen, I'd still be on board with La'el Collins in the 5th.

Lol your dumb, he wouldn't of been invited to the draft if he was a 2nd Round guy.

NFL Draft committee takes information from teams of who would likely go in the 1st Round and they invite the top consensus of those players.

You do know day 2 is still in Chicago, right?

I'd actually prefer David Johnson over any of the backs left. I really like Duke but I think Johnson has a ton of upside

Not sure how true that is. With the amount of guys not attending the draft, I think the NFL was looking for players to attend.

Does anyone have a list of players that attended the draft?

Yes, but he's right. They have a different group of guys there for tomorrow.

The 27 guys they brought in tonight (25 showed, minus Mariotta and Winston) were all "projected" to be potential 1st round picks when the NFL talked to teams.

So more than a handful of teams rated him as a first round guy, or he would have been at the hotel tonight, and been on hand tomorrow.

Fuck I like you Monster.

Me too.

Langford fits our offense to a T and has a HR gear that we currently don't have.

I have a bad feeling that he'll be gone at our pick. I'd take him in the 2nd, though. With the two fatties in the middle now, I think he's perfect for us.

Fuck. Get over it. He's a good player.

Could be our starting C.....who knows.

Or.....just whine....whine....whine.......whatever.

That's what I originally said, but people keep saying he is depth.sounds like that's what Lions are thinking. If it's depth not good. Weren't you the one that didn't want a better for Stafford because he might not be used? But back up that is top 15 cap hit is a good pick? Why does logic continue to elude you?

Keep choking down Mayhews dick you Nancy. Everything is amazing!

You do know they don't invite players for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th rounds etc, right?

They invited 26 players to come to the draft this year. Tomlinson was one. So apparently the NFL teams consensus said that Tomlinson was going to be picked in the 1st Round. And he was, they were right, you sir WRONG.

Book it that a team with not much to lose will take him in one of the next two rounds.

I like the pick. he gave up 0 sacks, 0 pressures and had 0 holding penalties last year. He was listed as a late 1 early 2 and thats where we got him. The kid is smart and will be a success and we will never have any issues off the field with him.

At first glance, some analysts valued Laken Tomlinson as a second- or possibly third-round NFL draft choice.

But no matter where teams had him, the read on the 6-foot-3, 323-pounder was simple:

He'll create space.

"That's a really interesting pick. Most had him in the second, some even with a third-round grade. (But he's) one of my favorite guards in the draft," NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock said Thursday after the Detroit Lions selected Tomlinson No. 28 overall in the NFL draft. "You know what that does? It gives them bookend guards (with). Larry Warford, who played at Kentucky, was a second-round pick two years ago. (Tomlinson's) a big, powerful, person-mover. People mover. I really like (Tomlinson).

"He doesn't have great feet, he's not athletic as the zone-scheme teams, but he's a people mover."

Tomlinson, who studied medicine at Duke, was the best "pure guard" in the draft, per ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr.

The Lions scored the former Blue Devil after trading the No. 23 pick to Denver for a fifth rounder this year, a fifth rounder next year and guard Manny Ramirez. Mayock wondered if the Lions would slot him at right tackle, but NFL Network cohort Daniel Jeremiah reminded viewers how important interior pass protection is for the Lions within Joe Lomardi's offense.

Per Jeremiah, a possible combination of Warford and Tomlinson would allow the Lions to protect from the inside out.

"I think he's going to play guard, guys. Mike hit on it, building up the guards," Jeremiah added. "You have Warford on one side, their offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi protects from the inside out. You have a firm pocket for a quarterback in Matthew Stafford, who is only about 6-foot-2, he has room to climb up in the pocket.

"I think this pick makes a lot of sense."

Some analysts questioned whether or not Tomlinson was a reach at this point in the draft, especially given the defensive tackle talent still remaining on the board.

But either way, there wasn't much of a consistent knock on the overall value the Lions will get from their 2015 first round choice.

"Do you take a guard at this point when a Malcolm Brown (defensive tackle, Texas), the 12th player on my board was sitting there, that's debatable," Kiper said. "But here's a kid who was really impressive throughout the draft process, and had a heck of a career at Duke."

You guys keep saying that they don't invite 2nd round people. You're wrong. Since they went to this 3 day format, they're inviting 1st and 2nd round prospects. Tomorrow, all those that were left in the green room will be there again.
