The Official Round 1 Draft Thread

Nowadays you never know, lots of small school RBs having success in the NFL. There are a ton of them out there that pop up out of nowhere

Guy just seems too leggy to me, looks like he has a wr frame. Hope he does well, I'm just holding out for one of the big named RBs.

He is a converted wr but is still a physical runner. Still has 20 lbs on guys like Duke and Abdullah

L'ael Collins with that 5th rounder we picked up from Denver? Then I'd say our oline is set

I think after improving the line with a young guard, and bringing in a vet via trade who can play any position (except LT IMO) we should probably avoid the risk of Collins at this point.

I'm sure he will be cleared of all charges, but there is something else here. A guy doesn't fall completely out of the draft, or even that low, just because cops want to talk to him. There is a reason teams are scared, and you can bet the NFL Security Council has made it's calls to find out what's up.

I'm betting there may be reason teams are scared, because they aren't normally this paranoid.

I'd rather use a 7th rounder on a flyer running back than deal it for Stacy. I'm wondering what Denver might want for Montee Ball.

They seem to have given up on that kid and plan to use Anderson as a feature back. Maybe they'd take a mid rounder for him?

Probably not.

First off, love the pick, I too wanted him in the 2nd but seems consensus around NFL was late first early second which i was wrong. And for those saying "O well he was projected second round..... We picked him at 28 that's pretty close to 2nd round and not to mention I really like some of the DT's left available. But I personally hope we go RB or WR r2, I'd totally take Devin Smith if he falls and then take my boy who I've wanted all along in the 3rd.... Marcus Hardison... Kid played DT/DE for ASU had 10 sacks and 15 TFL last season, his first as a starter. I like his size, strength, and versatility. Wouldn't be mad with Jordan Phillips, Michael Bennett, or Goldman in the 2nd. Can't wait for the rest of the draft.

Marcus Hardison highlights from last season.

Right......if, like his lawyer says, they have verified his whereabouts for the murder timeframe......and he didn't Rae Carruth her (hire someone to kill her)......then what's the need to try to pull out of the draft??

I also think there is more to this.

Money.
If he can get 100% cleared and it turns out it was just horrible timing, in the supplemental draft he could be drafted in a higher round than he would be now with the uncertainty. Which would lead to more money for him.

Who makes the flip to LG?

Both Warford and Tomlinson are better run blockers than pass blockers, so which one turns over to the LG, who do we keep at right? Seems like Warford might have a bit of the edge in pass blocking so it would make sense to be him....Anyone hear anything?

Even your master lkp had tomlinson mocked to us in rd 2. Drafting him an entire round early is not good value....dont care how you slice it.

I don't give 2 fucks what LKP had coming to us. OL was a MAJOR NEED and they locked up the Guard position for the next 8-10 years. Then we acquired picks and picked up a serviceable versatile OLineman. You would have bitched regardless of the pick. All you do is cry. The one major thing this team needed and you still moan like a bitch....it's hilarious lol.

This is a great move even if it is a reach at 28. i don't think he would have made it to 54 with the way the board went. We are deep on the interior and added a stud to help pass pro and the run game.

Now we can focus on DT, CB and RB. DT and RB are deep in this draft.

Great first day. Lions draft solely for stud depth now.

There is a lot to like about the pick no doubt. Myself I've been bitching for OL for years, I wanted Humphries but can't complain too much with Tomlinson. It's a copycat league most of the time and the Cowboys hit a home run drafting a first round guard last year. That being said do you know how I know you guys are LKP level homers? You thinking/defending ManRam as our starter for all of a half hour and then flip flopping like a circus tumbler. Read the thread to verify.

I love that they traded back. I don't know if he was a reach since some had his grade at 2nd or even 3rd round but if he is a good starting guard I don't care. All I wanted in the first round was a DT or a OL and that is what they got. I would have been pretty happy with M Brown too.

Ramirez is starter material. We are very deep now at guard and center. Such a great move by Mayhew to get two guys with one pick really.

Like the pick, don't really care if it was a small reach. If he's playing well years from now I couldn't give two shits whether he was late 1st or mid 2nd. Not flashy, but we've all seen how flashy works here. There's no way of knowing if they could've traded back further and there's also no way of knowing whether Tomlinson would've still been on the board or not. If the Patriot rumors are accurate, it was 100% the right choice.

They needed a guard and got one, plus they added OL depth with Manny. The trade looks to be a good call.

Onto day 2, they could really go anywhere, I'd be happy with DL, Secondary and maybe WR, RB.

This. If this is the guy they wanted, I'm good with the pick. The fact that they traded down to get him, got two more picks and a solid player on the cheap that can either be used for depth or perhaps as a starter while the youngsters at G and C come along is a bonus.

I kind of wanted Brown there, but both sides of the ball needed addressing. DT, RB, DE, CB is what I'd like to see on day 2/3.

There is very little risk here IMO, the police has said he is not a suspect at all. They could change their mind, but that's very unlikely, this kid is getting railroaded. I would pick him in the 2nd if he's still there, kid has 1st round talent.

2010 trench pick, 2011 trench pick, 2012 trench pick, 2013 trench pick, 2014 Ebron, 2015 trench pick.

I sense a theme by Mayhew.
