They're leaving one of the highest rated FM stations in the country, for an AN station that doesn't even do sports. And they didn't give 97.1 very good access, that came out today too.
The Lions come out looking like the idiots they are. They gave up a ton of exposure because they demanded the station fire a guy who they couldn't control. They look like a joke. The station picked Valenti over the Lions and I bet they laughed their asses off when the Lions have them the ultimatum.
All of which is completely irrelevant and entirely speculative. The statin that got dropped is the one making all the claims, which means it's as suspect as information can get.
But beyond that, 97.1 was the "official" station of the team. If they are not being represented the way they feel is appropriate, you make that change. It doesn't matter how truthful it is... what matters is you are giving your support to a radio station, and they aren't supporting back.
It's the ONLY decision that makes sense. Any other decision would be irresponsible of the Lions.
The only way to stop this sorry ass organization is to stop buying tickets to games. Problem is people will continue to fill the seats and Fords will take that money and live a better life. FOOTBALL IS A HOBBY FOR THEM! They have no idea what they are doing, proof is in their record as BigBob posted. They use the Lion franchise to sell vehicles, plain and simple.

Ink, who do you side with? This organization that has been pulling the wool over our eyes for 50 years, or a Detroit sports station that basically has nothing to hide now that it's over?
Tell you what man, Karsch is one of the most reliable and honest guys working today. Even he at noon today said that they would get calls every single morning from the Lions brass about what they could and couldn't say. It was validated by the other hosts the entire day. You think they are all lying about the Lions just to push some agenda?
Last time I checked, the radio station has no bearing on the product on the field, and I haven't made a dime off the advertising either way... so why do I need to pick a side?
Makes no sense. As a fan, I don't need some radio talking head telling me what to think. I can see a shitty team for myself.
It's very clear the business relationship between the two was not mutually beneficial, so it was severed. Happens in business every single day, even on holidays.
Every newspaper, sports TV station, sports talk show, etc... is giving you the truth. If you can't read plenty of honest articles, you're not looking at ALL.
What the Lions needed was a radio station that would guild the lilies, and drive fan interest. What they didn't need was a "hard driving" radio program that made fans wonder why they pay for season tickets.
If the NFL started saying "Budweiser, the official beer of the NFL, even though it's cheap and tastes like skunk piss"... I doubt anyone would be surprised when Budweiser dropped their sponsorship.
The Lions essentially are the advertiser here. The radio station was given money, perks, and access to be that "official radio station" and what they got in return was bad PR.
If you owned a business, would you keep that relationship going for the sake of honesty??
No, you wouldn't. And that's a fact.

Radio is media exposure. Media exposure is a "one hand washes the other" affair. When you give a station access to your team, the expectation is better press.
I'd have cut ties too. No team need the hassle of a radio guy making the fans more negative than they already are. It's the right business move for the Lions.
It's called trade-out, and the Lions weren't getting their end of that. It's not a muzzle, it's advertising.
I can understand the Lions not wanting their "puppet" station to rip on them but as a fan...I certainly want to hear the truth. The Lions don't like the truth.
Wood said they weren't selling
