Tigers 2023-2024 Offseason: Trades, Free Agents, Call ups, Rule 5, tender, non-tender

of course I'll read these things...but what a waste of time. Some of the shit people write :lmao:

I almost didn't add this, but oh well. There is some shit not only in the blogs, but the regular Detroit papers and national ones.

we are at 2,969,904 views on the Tigers team notes thread. We need you to help us get at least to 5 million :)

There was something about this post you made that was greatly appreciated, and made me think. I finally realized what it was regarding the number of views.

If you go back to when I first started this Tigers Team Notes thread back on December 29, 2006 at espn, from that first day to when we left espn and came to the first Tigers Sports Forum, the total views over there were another 1,165,000 in those nearly 5 years. Right now total views since Day 1 is over 4,000,000 views.

I am surprised, happy, and humbled, there are so many posters and people who come over here to look at the Tigers Team Notes thread.

Kenta Maeda believes Tigers are on track to be 'a winning team' in 2024 season

"If anyone has questions, not just young players, hopefully I have an answer," Maeda said. "I'd love to share my experiences."

Kenta Maeda on the Detroit Tigers in Japan:

"So the Tigers logo on the hat and jersey, that's a pretty cool looking logo. And, the people in Japan are already wearing hats and jerseys, not knowing it's a Detroit Tiger just for the looks. So it's already a thing here."

Kenta Maeda is open to fellow Japanese players joining the Tigers. Does he plan recruit Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Sh?ta Imanaga?

"That's up to the GMs and presidents, so I don't think I have too much control over that. I'll support in any way possible, but that's all I can do."

Tigers right-hander Kenta Maeda: "It'd be nice to be able to play with fellow countrymen on the same team. I already have eight years of service time here, so if anyone comes to the Tigers, I think I can offer some good advice about pitching in America."

Why did Kenta Maeda seek a two-year contract?

1. "It's better to stay for multiple years and be an actual member. That means a lot to me."
2. Ten years of service time is a goal.

Scott Boras: "One scoop of Detroit is great, but two scoops is a lot better. It's really a cone."

FIVE FOR FRIDAY.
Totally Tigers

Several days ago, the Tigers swooped in and signed pitcher Kenta Maeta before his former team, the Twins, could make an offer to bring him back.

Overall, the signing has been positively received and fills a starting pitcher vacancy for Detroit.

So what are the biggest takeaways from this signing?

I?ve got my top 5???

Big changes coming within the Tigers farm-system:

Anthony Iapoce moving from Toledo manager to first-base coaching job in Detroit;

Tim Federowicz, the Tigers catching coach, is new Toledo skipper;

Brayan Pena leaving West Michigan to be a minor-league catching coach.

Detroit Tigers' webvideo with Kenta Maeda and interpreter: 'It'd be nice to be able to play with fellow countrymen'. 9 minutes.

Detroit Tigers pitcher Kenta Maeda, alongside interpreter Dai Sekizaki, discusses his decision to sign 2-year, $24 million contract on Nov. 30, 2023.

This was a really cool interview. Hideo Nomo ws the last Japanese player the Tigers has I think back in 2000.

SATURDAY SURVEY.
Totally Tigers

Earlier this week, the Tigers added starting pitcher Kenta Maeda to their rotation. It is believed that the team wants to add another starting pitcher along with a couple bullpen arms.

But Scott Harris said this:

?You?ll never hear me say that we have enough pitching. I don?t even believe that that?s possible, to have enough pitching. So we?re going to continue to try to add pitching and see what?s available and if we can find more ways to make our staff deeper and better overall.?

Last year, the Tigers went through 17 different starting pitchers. There were 13 pitchers (both starters and relievers) who went on extended IL stints.

Out of all their starting pitching, 4 are no longer on the 26-man roster. They lost Matthew Boyd to surgery and his contract with the team recently ended. Eduardo Rodriguez exercised his opt out clause and Michael Lorenzen was traded.

Spencer Turnbull, who was once part of the starting rotation, was non-tendered by the team.

Currently, the starting rotation projects to have Maeda, another starter, Matt Manning, Casey Mize, Reese Olson and Tarik Skubal. Of all of them, Mize is the biggest question mark not having pitched in almost 2 years.

Is adding just 1 more starter going to be enough? Should the Tigers sign yet another SP for the rotation given all the injuries and bullpen days of the past?

Or should they keep the focus on using their younger players and building up their arms and experience?

Should the Tigers sign more than 2 new starting pitchers?

1. Yes, because of the injury factor.

2. No, the youngsters need to pitch and gain experience.
