Tigers 2023-2024 Offseason: Trades, Free Agents, Call ups, Rule 5, tender, non-tender

let's hope that you are right and the improvement on the field is soon to follow

The only problem for us is that it is taking much longer than we want. We are hungry and desperate for a World Series Championship.

The new people in charge have had to clean out so many from the past good old boys group of useless and clueless people throughout the Tigers front office and minor leagues with new innovative people with no connection to those who were sent packing. Improving much of the new analytics that was dormant for, let's say 20 years, while other teams continued to get better in what to look for in players. Improving the minor league development system is paramount to develop your own players. How many players from our minor leagues did we develop and bring up and bring up to the Tigers since Comerica Park opened?

We will get there, I just hope I do as well, since my health hasn't been that good since August.

I really don't need a WS championship (although that would be nice). I just want a good baseball team that has a good chance to make the playoffs on a consistent basis.

Sometimes the hunt is more exciting than the kill.. Get well soon, Ron.

Thank you Mitch and Tom.

I'm not ready to join the Baseball Heaven Tiger's fans yet.

WATERCOOLER WEDNESDAY.
Totally Tigers

Next weekend, MLB teams start to gather in Nashville for the annual winter meetings. This is the time when negotiations over trades and free agents start in earnest.

Detroit Tigers? PoBO, Scott Harris said that the team?s priorities are to add both starting and relief pitching.

But will they also be adding to the 26-man roster, too? Is there a need still for the coming year?

Currently, the Tigers? outfield has more players than open positions.

Behind the plate, we know Jake Rogers will be there. And Carson Kelly just had his option picked up and is now working intensely with the Tigers coaches in preparation for next year.

Spencer Torkelson, a #1 draft pick and best offensive player last year is at first.

Colt Keith is widely expected to inherit 2B and be on the Opening Day roster.

Jace Jung has switched to playing 3B with good reviews so far. But he?s not expected to advance to Detroit until sometime in the 2024 season. Until then, there is Matt Vierling and Andy Ibanez who can both handle the hot corner.

Javy Baez remains at SS and there are 98 million reasons why he will stay there ? at least for 2024. Don?t even consider signing another SS to be a possibility.

Harris has said that the team won?t add players who will block the young prospects from coming up.

But the Tigers are still in need of adding offense.

Which brings us to the Winter Meetings. Will Harris and Greenberg actually sign a non-pitcher, non-utility player?

Could they potentially trade 1 or more current players in order to upgrade the roster?

Do you think they will either trade or acquire a new (non-pitcher) player for the current roster? (Utility players don?t count in this poll.)

Do you think the Tigers will add a full-time positional player to the roster?

1. Yes, they will add a full-time positional player.

2. No, they will focus solely on adding pitching.

I don't think they add anything of significance as far as positional players go.

That said, I don't understand why a lot of people think that Jace Jung is switching to 3B? I know they had him there in the Arizona Fall League, but that could have been to get him more playing time??

From the article:

"Colt Keith is widely expected to inherit 2B and be on the Opening Day roster.

Jace Jung has switched to playing 3B with good reviews so far. But he?s not expected to advance to Detroit until sometime in the 2024 season. Until then, there is Matt Vierling and Andy Ibanez who can both handle the hot corner."

This doesn't make much sense to me. Keith is better suited to play 3B due to his arm. Neither are great fielders (from what I have read) but doesn't it make sense to have the guy with the better arm at 3B?

I understood that the switch to 3B in the Arizona fall league was because Hao-Yu Lee was playing 2nd and he didn't have another position.

Scott Harris: "We're going to keep looking to add pitching. You'll never hear me say that we have enough pitching. I don't even believe it's possible to have enough pitching. We're going to see what's available and if we can find more ways to make our staff deeper and better."
