Tigers 2024 Spring Training beginning 2 - 14

Detroit Tigers outfielder looking to step up to the plate and shine in 2024.
Parker Meadows had a good start late last season and has continued that success in Spring Training. In 2024, it is time for Parker to take his game to the next level and become a household name in the Motor City.

Quirky reliever looking to lock down the Detroit Tigers' closing role.
Alex Lange brings the energy, literally. He's a big fan of meditation and keeping his cool out on the mound. In 2024, he's hoping he can be the Detroit Tigers closer.

I really wish they would just move forward with the guys that they have. A new start, so to speak.
I think he'd be valuable. Help with the cultural difference, Spanish players and families - help in certain events and even lend his hitting prowess during ST. And whatever else a SA entails. That's why teams hire former ball players, Tram-Willie-Mr. Kaline etc..

For the first time in quite a few years, there are some legitimate battles for Opening Day roster spots. In fact, in all 4 areas of the roster – starting pitching, relief, infield and outfield. Over the course of the next couple weeks, we’ll address each area.
Today, let’s start with the infield where there are 2 major battles currently going on. Our focus for this poll is the competition for 2B.
Colt Keith was signed this off-season to an extended contract on the belief that he will become the heir apparent. However, A. J. Hinch stated that this move doesn’t guarantee him a spot on the Opening Day roster. Potentially, Keith could spend some time down in Toledo further prepping for a debut at some point during the 2024 season.
He had a slow start to spring training but has started to pick up offensively. His slash line (through Monday) is .250/.333/.333/.667 which is considered to be very average.
Andy Ibanez has turned out to be the hottest hitter on the entire team so far and has received more playing time than Keith. He leads the team in runs, hits, HRs, total bases and has 1 of the team’s best slash lines – .286/.333/.786/1.119 .
His work defensively is also solid and he’s had more games at 2B than Colt. However, it is believed that Ibanez’s role would be as a utility player.
But Andy also had a very solid year offensively for the Tigers in 2023, playing 114 games.
Given both their backgrounds and Scott Harris’ comment about the young guys who need to play, who is the best choice to be named as the primary starter for 2B?

Is it more important to put a priority on gaining experience or putting a player in who may be more likely to produce on a regular basis?
And how does this all fit in with the concern over the Tigers potentially having yet another slow start to the season?

Who would you name as the primary player for 2B to start the season?

Who should be the primary 2Ber to start the season?

1. Colt Keith

2. Andy Ibanez

I voted Ibanez. Let Keith start in Toledo. If they hadn't signed him to a long term contract, would this even be a question?

I think he was going to get a shot regardless if he signed a long contract. He doesn't have anything to prove at the MiLB level anymore. Don't let 30 PA in ST sway that. Ibanez has no upside here.. Outside some defense he adds nothing.

he was the 4th best hitter on the team last year, and had the highest combined WAR on the team at +2.8 (2nd in offense, and 2nd on D). Of course, that's not saying much, most of the hitters on the team sucked ;)

So, 4th best on a team with bad offense means little. He has no long term upside why not start the kid who has nothing else to prove in the minors. I don't see how sending him to AAA does anything for him.

slow starts have hurt the Tigers over the past 2 seasons. Having a more veteran player might be better than a kid with only about 550 combined plate appearances between AA and AAA.

Langford only has 80 PA between the two and apparently he's the ROTY.

Jackson Jobe is the monster at the door.
Another spectacular display from the game’s top pitching prospect makes clear he won’t be denied much longer.

Detroit Tigers: Who wins the battle of second base?
The Detroit Tigers have a majority of their roster set with very few position battles happening, but second base is still up for grabs, and some players are making it challenging for AJ Hinch to make a decision.
