Tigers acquire Omar Infante and Anibal Sanchez

First 10 starts, through May Sanchez was at 2.56 ERA. In case anyone cares about that.

Plus he has a 2.88 ERA on the road. Just fluff numbers to try and make me feel better about the trade ;-)

Like getting Omar back, 2b problem greatly improved at least for now, not so sure on Sanchez we'll see. Were does this leave Ramon, more days off for JP prolly. lol

For me it depends on if Sanchez is here for only 2 months. If we sign him I'll be on board but if he walks in 2 months and we don't win a WS then I will hate it.

Do you think DD just traded away his top pitching prospect for a rental? I'm absolutely sure he has every intention of extending Sanchez before the offseason. Really not worried.

what if sanchez prefers to test free agency? we just might not be able to resign him.

Then we'll sign someone else or just use Smyly.

I don't understand why the fuck all of you are only looking at the bad side of this trade. There are more good things than bad right now.

1) The Tigers now have a full 5 man rotation of experienced, good starting pitchers, with a sixth waiting in the wings if needed

2) The Tigers finally have a 2B that can hit a baseball on a consistent basis and doesn't suck with the glove

3) The Tigers essentially acquired a first round draft pick.

On the bad side we have this

1) Anibal Sanchez may be just a rental

2) The Tigers gave up a couple good prospects

As far as #2 goes, in my mind they are simply prospects, nothing more, nothing less. One of them is blocked by a young All-star at his position, one projects to be a nice bullpen piece in the long term, and the third is a good pitching prospect, but can't really help the big league club at the moment.

I'd take established players over prospects all day everyday unless the prospect is a can't miss, none of which that were involved in the trade are can't miss.

Also have to consider that not only was Avila blocking Brantly, but the Tigers also have James McCann in the system too. I'm sure having other catching prospects helped make that decision.

Mike Rosenbaum likes the deal.

Considering Turner’s age, minor injury history and lack of big-league experience, I believe the Tigers were wise to part with their premier pitching prospect. His key peripheral stats continue to trend in the wrong direction and, in turn, his prospect stock has waned over the last year. Although he may blossom into a mid-rotation starter for the Marlins, the Tigers definitely cashed in by acquiring two major leaguers that will immediately improve their team.

If we don't win a WS AND he walks in 2 months how can this trade be anything but bad?

Even if he walks and Turner lives up to his current potential (#3), we still got a better draft pick and a good 2B. Ill take that. And thats with saying Turner pans out

Because we'd have no one. I do like the draft pick but that sort of makes up for Losing Brantley. Sort of ;-) Okay, lets say it has the potential to be bad.

Are you saying in 2013 you'll be okay with no Sanchez, a 31 year old Infante and no Turner? Coming off a 1st round playoff exit?

I can't get on board in that scenario. I need a WS ring or a contract for Sanchez.

How long did it take Pujoles to adjust?

And Fielder was not hitting with power for a long bit, and is still not like he usually does.

Fielder is playing in Comerica

Pujols had a terrible start last season in the NL...

Well if Sanchez has a 4.55 era in Detroit and walks at the end of the year and the Tigers traded 2 of their best prospects for Omar Infante..sure I'll be a little upset. It's not about what Turner "will be" it's what we all thought the Tigers could get for him either earlier or later. Trade value is the biggest issue here I think. I don't get too hung up on how good a guy can be because there are very few can't miss prospects and when you have one like Strasburg, Harper etc you know it already. I worry about trade value.

I'm not sure why you guys are all convinced Sanchez will walk, I doubt DD lets him.

If he sucks, the tigers will let him walk. I'm not convinced he'll be worth signing back at the price he may want. Hopefully he'll be as good as he was in Miami n I'm not trying to play Debbie Downer, but I am definitely tempering my expectations here./

Sounds to me like it was a balanced trade, we gave up some serious potential, but not as much as we thought we had 1-2 years ago in Turner, for a huge need at 2b and a good mid rotation pitcher who still has a chance to be better with the stuff he brings. We get an equal prospect to Brantley back most likly with the swap of picks, but the prospect will be another year or two away... but the upside is that we are already set at the position. What we need is middle infield and corner outfield prospects, and Brantley was neither.

If Infante and Sanchez perform well, this deal is a win for Detroit even if Sanchez walks and we don't win a world series... you have to judge trades more on value at the trade than on eventual results for the most part. I would bet that with what we currently have we are going to make the postseason (barring major injuries)... and once there with our ace JV, good experienced starting pitching depth behind him, and a potent offense (that just got deeper)... lets just say I like our chances as well as anyone. Can we ask for more, really? Illitch and DD are in win now mode, and rightly so... we gave up some good potential big leaguers, but all of them were at least 2 years away from producing at their peak, and probably more. At that point, who knows what the make-up of the team will be? Right now we have a legit shot at being champions, and those chances just got quite a bit better this year with Sanchez and Infante filling immediate needs, and somewhat better next year with Infante at 2b even if Sanchez walks. And if Sanchez walks, we have a more experienced Smyly ready to step up.

Bottom line, I like this trade as of right now... and in real life that means it was a good trade regardless of outcome IMO. If Turner and Brantley turn into perrenial All Stars, and Infante and Sanchez play like crap for us, then I'll just have to eat those words; yet still remember that I thought this was a good move when it happened.

Comerica has a short right field [for a pull hitter like Prince].

Comerica is a doubles ballpark.

Prince's spray chart says he goes to right less than any other part of the park if I remember right.
