On the mound, Nova has been a reliable innings-eater over the course of his career, and with some uncertainty in the Tigers rotation, will help bridge the gap until some of Detroit?s pitching prospects arrive.

The group of five unquestionably improves the team on paper. They?re also fairly risk-free, as far as free agents go. All are reliable MLB contributors, with long track records for the most part; and for a team that lost 114 games last season, and with a fanbase not amused, it?s understandable that some steady veterans were brought in to boost the win total.

So what?s the downside? You can put lipstick on a pig, but it?s still gonna oink.

some of these "fanside" articles are too biased. He cherry picked some of Boyd's stats from 2019 to make the case that he is equal to or better than Maeda. Overall, Maeda is better than Boyd. Better K/9, gives up fewer HRs, lower WHIP, lower ERA. Hell, Maeda is even cheaper than Boyd and under contract until after the 2023 season.
