Detroit Tigers hoping third time's a charm for Cameron Maybin, who'll play right field.
Freep
It will be Maybin?s third stint with the Tigers, which could well be the most in team history: Players who have had two stints with the team include Brad Ausmus, Willie Blair, Kirk Gibson, Jose Lima and Todd Jones; Ausmus returned to serve as field manager from 2014-17.
That headline is misleading, since Maybin performed very well in the 2 spot and in CF, after he returned from an early-season HBP injury, IIRC. He was traded to the angels for RP Victor Gascantara after the '16 season's end.
Also forgot about RP Alex Wilson, who resigned last month with the Tigers, after last season wirh the Brewers, as well as their two former catchers in Alex Avila and Gerald Laird, the former who was resigned as a FA for the '17 season, after one season as a white sox, only to be traded @ the deadline to the Cubs with Justin Wilson for Jeimer Candelario and Isaac Paredes. Laird signed as a scantly-used backup C with the Cards in '11 but won a WS ring with the team in a memorably meme-manic fashion. He resigned with the Tigers for one last season as Avila's backup in '12, hitting a surprisingly high but XB-RBI empty .280.
