That headline is misleading, since Maybin performed very well in the 2 spot and in CF, after he returned from an early-season HBP injury, IIRC. He was traded to the angels for RP Victor Gascantara after the '16 season's end.

Also forgot about RP Alex Wilson, who resigned last month with the Tigers, after last season wirh the Brewers, as well as their two former catchers in Alex Avila and Gerald Laird, the former who was resigned as a FA for the '17 season, after one season as a white sox, only to be traded @ the deadline to the Cubs with Justin Wilson for Jeimer Candelario and Isaac Paredes. Laird signed as a scantly-used backup C with the Cards in '11 but won a WS ring with the team in a memorably meme-manic fashion. He resigned with the Tigers for one last season as Avila's backup in '12, hitting a surprisingly high but XB-RBI empty .280.

In other MLB news, apparently the BJs' backup C Reese McGuire was "reesently" arrested for indecent exposure while masturbating in a parking lot...so some cop saw Reese's piece...:ugh:

In the report, cops claim when they got McGuire's phone to try to find his current address ... they noticed an "extremely pornographic video was playing on the screen."

Officers say they asked Reese why he came to the parking lot instead of just going home ... McGuire responded that he "did not know, it just seemed like a good place."


Dunno if I believe the first sentence, since the cops would be far more likely to ask first for some kind of card ID, and it would have been his driver's licence, had he been driving away from the scene of the act. No mention of them doing so.

Cops also ask for proof of insurance as well as vehicle registration, and both of those would have his home addy printed on them.

This wouldn't be a big deal, had he been (caught while) getting a blowjob from, or having sex w/his gf in his ride, as most guys have had them and can attest to...including myself once in a public metropark, but the mounted cop arrived just a few minutes too late to catch us in the act. I also learned long ago that getting one while driving on a freeway is very distracting and is NOT a good idea.

This is the most boring time of year for sports. The NFL is over & basketball is pretty meaningless this time of year. Looking forward to spring!

The Tigers positional prospects all have the same problem, High K rate and low OBP rate. Some of the shortstops can't even field. 8 f'n catchers and they don't total a 0.5 WAR. Who the fuck is drafting these stiffs??

Soo...each division has had only 2 of 5 teams winning a WS championship within a generation's time.



It is highly unlikely that the Tigers franchise under its current ownership and organizational staff are very capable of producing a championship-caliber team...however, due to playing in a division sans big market/spending competition, they "should" be capable of fielding divisional contenders....eventually.


As I have posted before, it appears that Ilitch's goal is to fund teams as if the franchise is in a small market and set the team payroll accordingly. Then hope that they can somehow emulate what the Royals did in '14-'15...and what the A's Twins and Rays are trying to do currently. Despite being "once in a generational" talent, Mike Trout is in his prime with a franchise in the Angels who haven't (as yet) sniffed the postseason during his entire career, while his teammate Pujols, as well as the Tigers' Verlander and Cabrera won rings w/other teams...both however not having done much to help win one in 2012...the latter not when his team was SHO in humiliating fashion in consecutive road and home games by low identical 2-0 scores, and being the last batter up to strikeout in their Game 4 Series loss @ CoPa.
