Tigers looking at Mark Buerhle

If that was the case, maybe. But I don't think a Buehrle contract will prevent DD from getting a MIF or other important needs.

I could see us signing Buehrle and ARam, then pulling off a big winter meeting trade with some young pitching. Maybe something like AJax and Turner for McCutcheon or Carlos Gonzalez, Porcello for Gardner or Phillips, or package some stuff together for HanRam. It'd definitely give us some options for improving.

I see you play fantasy baseball.

In the end, a more desperate team will overpay to get Buerhle, I think. It's good to see the Tigers as players in the market, though.

Hey dude, for a baseball fan winter meetings is the perfect time to play fantasy baseball. We all get to dream about trade scenarios and possibilities. Its awesome.

I understand but keeping it realistic is key. Some people go overboard. McCutcheon....does anybody think Pittsburg would ever get rid of him?

No and I wouldn't say that but when someone else does, I think "oh yeah". :) :)

DD is known for playing fantasy baseball and making huge trades during the winter meetings. Did anybody think we'd see Miguel Cabrera traded? He's a way bigger star than McCutcheon or any of the others I threw out there as people I'd take a run at. All I'm saying is that by signing a veteran lefty like Buehrle, you can move one or two of Scherzer, Porcello, Turner, Crosby, Perry, Schlereth, etc. If you wanted to go away from Jackson in CF, McCutcheon is a guy we could shoot for. You don't think Jackson and Turner would get them highly interested? We aren't barren in prospects like everybody thinks. We actually have good, young, cheap talent, but a lot of it is in the same area and already in the big leagues.

FL knew they weren't going to be able to sign Miggy so they had to unload him ASAP.

Pittsburgh a very small market so they'll have to unload some talent soon themselves.

True....but he only has 2 full years in the big leagues and only made $450K last year. They were trying to extend him 5 years last season. I doubt he is going anywhere.

Trading one young/cheap player for two seems like a good move if payroll is a concern. It isn't like they wouldn't be getting back at least as much talent, if not more either.

It's very debatable who is the Tigers #2 or 3 starter. During the playoffs, Scherzer and Fister both pitched better than JV at times. People are quick to trade Scherzer, but he went into Yankee stadium and won game 2 for us, shutting out the Yanks over 6 innings. The series is over if they go down 2-0, plain and simple. Then he relieved Fister in game 5, and only gave up a run when Benoit walked in a runner. Granted, Scherzer is inconsistent, but his stuff is nearly on par with JV at times, and the Tigers would be wise to keep him around unless a can't miss trade offer is made. I probably wouldn't trade Scherzer straight up for McCutcheon. Fister was lights out down the stretch, now lets see him do that when the schedule is tough early on in the season. In my opinion, the key is having a lefty starter to put between all the righties, so that the opposing manager can't have the same lineup every single night in a short series. Beurhle would fit that role nicely, as a #2, 3, 4, or 5. If he comes here, he will easily win 15+ games over a full season. Love me some hot stove cooking!

Of 150 starters over the last 3 years (using a formula I developed weighting certain peripheral stats):

#2 Verlander
#42 Fister
#51 Buerhle
#59 Scherzer
#74 Porcello

Assume 0-30 = #1, 31-60 = #2, 61-90 #3

But I thought they'd never consider trading away such a talent.

I have been a fan of this kid since the first time I saw him play.
Wouldn't want to trade Jackson for now for his defense, but have no idea what they would want in players for him Tigers 25 man or top prospects.
