Tigers vs. indians Game Thread Sept. 3

I'm not even letting Boesch off the hook. He's didn't advance the runner either, getting HBP is sad compensation when what we really needed was a hit.

Yeah your right... He was lucky he was hit.. Probably would have k'd anyway..

Peralta's at bat was the killer. If he walks that Avila grounder ties the game.

If he had walked, the infield might have been playing in, and Avila ends up with a walk-off hit (of course presuming that Avila still did what he did).

We just never do the little things, it's the same reason 2009 killed us. When you don't pay attention to detail and have professional at bats in key moments this is what happens.

Yup it has killed us all season.. So frustrating when we should be leading this division by 7 games at least by now...

I forgot about the ball off the wall that Boesch should have gotten to 3rd on that cost us atleast a run as well. The little things... Not so little right now.

crap another bone headed play. I forgot about that one.... jab my eye with a ice pick!!!!!

Not at all.

Leadoff double, he has to advance that runner in order to give us a chance to sacrifice him home.

I'm not blaming Delmon for the loss, just saying our best chance to tie was hinged on his AB, if he advanced Prince to 3rd, Boesch or Jhonny just have to swing under one and get it into the OF and it's a tie game.

Delmon had a chance to be the hero again tonight, he just didn't come through, that's not hatred, it's what happened.
Who's to say either of those hacks behind him can even get one in the air. Delmon's hot, he was trying to end it.

The little things are what we haven't got right most of the season; advancing runners, sacrifice hits, fielding well, base-running strategy, hitting discipline, throwing clear strikes on 0-2 counts......

It's been a common thing for us since the 2006 World Series really.

Thats good for Delmon.

Does not change the fact that no matter what he has to advance the runner, even a fly out to right would have done it, or a ball hit to the right side of the IF.

I understand he was trying to win it, but it does not change that he has to advance the runner to 3rd, then if the hacks behind him fail it's on them.

The worst things that could have happened in Delmons AB were a K, a ground ball to the left side, a weak fly out to left, or a weak ass dribbler to the pitcher, because all of those fail to advance the tying run, which is the priority.

I would love to get rid of some of these all or nothing hitters and replace them with some good situational hitters. This team lives or dies on bashing it and sadly has died quite a few times. Any other team you see a runner at 3rd less than 2 outs you count the run in your head but with us you feel it's less than a 50/50 chance he gets home.

And for the people wondering why we didn't PR for Fielder....suppose we had and tied, then that means Don Kelly is probably playing 1B and hitting 4th in the 10th.

I think Cabrera and Fielder are the two guys you can never PR for in a close game.
