Tigers vs. indians Game Thread Sept. 3

And for the people wondering why we didn't PR for Fielder....suppose we had and tied, then that means Don Kelly is probably playing 1B and hitting 4th in the 10th.

I think Cabrera and Fielder are the two guys you can never PR for in a close game.

Agreed. You NEVER take those 2 monsters out.

I would love to get rid of some of these all or nothing hitters and replace them with some good situational hitters. This team lives or dies on bashing it and sadly has died quite a few times. Any other team you see a runner at 3rd less than 2 outs you count the run in your head but with us you feel it's less than a 50/50 chance he gets home.

Tigers are batting 321 with a 846 OPS with runners on 3rd and less than 2 outs.

Yep.

2 strikes when he got HBP, Pestano bailed him out probably.

While it is most likely that he would have made an out...he did hit a monster home run on an 0-2 pitch against Sale last night. We'll never know.

.321 doesn't tell me the whole story though. It's all about the outs that happen with runners at 3rd with less than 2 outs. The good teams make the outs runs.

that's as a team, he's talking about the players that are no where near those numbers for the obviously stated reasons, come back when you break those players down.

Perhaps Leyland will answer this post-game. He has been doing well recently, but to me he also looked tired at the plate at times, and wasn't running well.

He's 25. No reason for a stud like AJ to sit today.

Yeah, I was there last night, and I said to myself, Sale is going to throw this next one a foot off the plate and Brennan is going to chase it and go down hacking.

Then the sound of him hitting it I knew it was going out.

Even if the White Sox lose tonight I will be mad because we won't be up a game. I hate losing early in the day.

Yup. Just like the DY's homer yesterday...we're all sitting here thinking and saying he's going to K again on that same slurve pitch he hasn't been close to hitting and then he Vlad Guerrero's one into the seats.

Dan and Jim said on the radio that Berry was kind of a forgotten man on the bench and wanted to get him some time in the field. And that he also wanted to play Boesch, and get Dirks some AB's and no way he could sit Delmon, so Ajax was the likely guy to get a rest vs. a RHP.

Not saying it was right, just what they said on the radio.

hmm, Tigers are hitting .275 with a .765 ops with runners on, .271 with a .799 ops with runners in scoring position and 2 outs, and .283 with .793 ops with runners in scoring position in general; no where near that stat.

Heh, I didn't see Delmons HR, cause I was talking with some guy who was saying Verlander needs Tommy John or something, and by the time I looked up it was already gone.

Vid replay was cool though, he 9-ironed it.

Leyland is an idiot...lol. Oh well...

And the emphasis on batting average with runner at 3rd less than 2 outs is exactly the problem. The good teams will sacrifice themselves to make sure that run scores. Shouldn't need to get hits to get that in.
