Tigers vs. indians Game Thread Sept. 3

Boesch has a much higher contact percentage out of the strike zone than Hamilton. Hamilton's O-contact% is 54.4. Boesch is 68.9.

Since you are focusing on statistics, please lookup Boesch's success rate when swinging on first pitches this year. Regarding Hamilton, swinging at pitches out of the strike zone has been his weakness, not his strength.

Nice hitting DY..

Don't say that shit on this board.....Rebbiv will sprout off some stat that shows Inge could have hit that 21.874% better.

Next thing you know, you'll have said Young should be a first ballot HOF'er.

Hamilton swings at more first pitches than Boesch. Not sure your point.

Really frustrating we are not pounding this guy who has a 5.16 era and a 1.65 whip with batters batting .317 verses him...

The point is crystal clear; Boesch has been awful when swinging at first pitches this season. I mean awful. Comparing him to Hamilton is apples and oranges. And using a negative stat of Hamilton's to make a positive impression of Boesch's hitting doesn't make any sense; not first pitch swinging or swing at pitches out of the strike zone. Statistics are only useful if they are applied in useful ways.

I have been critical of DY this year but better late then never for his hitting.....I just wish DY could field and run... He would have more value... With Victor coming back not sure where he fits in next year... But we all mostly feel this way with DY...

Ok lets pound this guy.... Eating a Popsicle.... Need to find one of my black cats!!!!!

Whether someone swings and grounds out on the first pitch or the 5th it's still an out.

The argument that taking a pitch which a hitter thinks is good enough to swing at is weak.

If he thinks the first looks good, or the 5th it makes no difference, it's about what the batter sees. In Boesch's case he just is not tracking pitches well period, he's not going to suddenly get better if he takes a couple.

There have been plenty of first pitch swings this year that resulted in hits, RBI, and HR's.

The same as there has been plenty of 5th or 6th pitch swings that resulted in K's, groundouts/flyouts, and GIDP.
