Tigers vs. rangers ALCS Game 1 Thread Oct. 8

Jackson was the only guy to get an RBI....I blame the hitters for this loss. Oh well at least its only game one and the bullpen wasn't depleted

So you guys want to fire the hitting coach because Miggy, V-Mart and Avila stunk?

No we've wanted him fired all year becuase the offense gets in this hack mode all the time and it's his job to prevent it.

Lol. "Yeah sure, us and Milwaukee" But what about Texas "Oh we'll roll".

My confidence right now is about as low as it can be.... Our pitchers did an excellent job and we crapped ourselves.

IMO, we lost this game in the 5th on Vmarts AB, not Avilas.

Really needed a sac fly to score Shinebox, instead a weak grounder holds runners and makes it 2 outs do or die.

Very frustrating game because we had plenty of chances... This team is just not hitting. Magglio and Victor both failed big time tonight.. Miguel had only one hit... Just a frustrating night at the plate... Must win on sunday..... Hopefully the bats will wake up because we held Texas to six hits tonight...

It's not the coach...it is the batters. Do you think he told WB to swing for the fence three pitches in a row? No....these guys do what they want. The hitting coach mostly works with mechanics.

Wow, their closer looked sick.

We played poorly, in the field and at the plate. Verlander let the bad calls get to him, but to be fair he threw 10 strikes that were called balls. 10 out of 82 pitches he got squeezed on, that's an incredible amount and is probably the difference in the game.

Just 1 game, but our bats better come alive!!! This loss is on the home plate ump and our top hitters.

The HR was a result of being squeezed.

Ahead in the count 2-0 Cruz could just sit dead red on the fastball.

Should have been 1-1 and Verlander would give Cruz an offspeed pitch.

Yup his at bat and Magglio's bases loaded DP in the first inning... Magglio just cant' t be counted on to get a sac fly but Victor's at bat was frustrating.. Alex just appears lost at the plate right now..

If we are depending on keeping the Rangers at 1 run a game we can pretty much kiss this series goodbye... We didn't lose this game because Verlander gave up a homer, we lost this game because our hitting f'ing stinks

Here is a look at the numbers.

Before Long Rain Delay:
6 for 18 - 6K - 5BB - 2 Runs

After Long Delay:
1 for 14 - 8K - 1BB - 0 Runs

2 Key AB's this game. Magglio hitting into a DP in the 1st w/ bases loaded and Avila's lack of plate discipline with the bases loaded coming off the long delay.

Can't blame the HR on just being squeezed.....but the pitch count and his overall approach was impacted.

The Rangers would conceding the run.

A GB to anywhere but the pitcher would have brought the run in.

That and Maggs GIDP in the first were much, much worse than Avila.

You missed Victor's at bat with a runners on .... With only one out... That at bat was more important then Alex's

I honestly think the two other runs were a result of being squeezed especially Murphy's triple.. I think the HR would have occurred regardless.. JV probably should have had 10 less pitches and 2 less runs if not for the called balls..

I think you can blame it on being squeezed.

The Umpire was basically making him throw fastball down the middle to get a strike call, if he was getting any of the corners, he probably never throws that pitch to Cruz.

Not entirely, no.

Verlander still missed his spot, and Cruz still crushed it.

But things would have been entirely different without that bullshit strike zone.

Victor's AB with the bases loaded, Magg's GIDP in the 1st with bases jacked and Avila's groundout after the delay with bases loaded were all the 3 biggest choke jobs of the game..

The three at bats in order of terribleness

1. Magglio's
2. Martinez
3. Alex. (he should have taken another pitch)
