Tigers vs. rangers Game Thread April 22

Tigers hitting 1st inning,

Jackson takes a strike on the corner, fastball outside, on the corner again strike call, fastball outside, belt high fastball is drilled to the wall in left for a leadoff double,

Boesch fastball tails outside, change outside, belthigh fouled back, fouled off the catcher who does the slo-mo fall to the side, woof off the shoulder, holds off on the eye level fastball full count, gets a piece of the curve down and in foul, fastball fouled back, swings and misses a cutter at the knees,

Cabrera swings and misses a belt high fastball, runs in on the hands fouled back, grounder to third checks Jackson down and throws high to first but gets foot down before Miggy, and Jackson gets to third on the throw,

Fielder takes a curve strike, fastball high, lined to the on deck circle and Young bites his tongue getting out of the way, fastball fouled back, ground foul down first, gets in front of the pitch and drives it deep right foul, grounder to first,

lewis with 23 pitches.

I know we are not a small ball club but when your team is struggling why not have boesch bunt Ajax over to 3rd? I am not always a fan of small ball but there are times for it and it's easy to say in hindsight but that would have been a good time for it..imo.

I'm glad that I now know why Torreable's parents named him such a stupid name

We just don't seem to ever even attempt to manufacture a run every now and again do we?

i really hate the "manufacturing runs" crap. giving up outs on purpose hurts more than it helps.

The worst time to play small ball is when you have Miguel Cabrera and Prince Fielder coming up to bat.

I agree. The only time I like it is if you only need a run to win or tie in the last inning. But in the first inning vs. a team like Texas....I don't think you give away outs.

Watching a leadoff double go to waste hurts worse. Like I said, at times and with the way we are hitting with runners in scoring position that was a good time for a struggling Boesch to move the runner over.

Because the current approach is just working so well. :yay:
so using less effective methods are going to help?
