Tigers vs. whitesox Game Thread September 13

Why do you guys want Verlander to be done pitching so badly tonight? He's not at a crazy pitch count and he doesn't seem tired. He's a freak. He doesn't need additional rest.

How do you know if he needs additional rest or not?

He's pitches a lot of innings, and hopefully will pitch a lot more, no reason not to rest him early when we have expanded rosters.

It can't hurt and it most likely would help to scale his pc down for the last few games in the hopes that his arm will be a little livelier for the playoffs. Just a theory.

84 Tigers never won more than 9 in a row.....but their dominance on the ROAD at the beginning of the season with sweep after sweep is what made them a 35-5 team. Team 2011 is making their own mark by erasing the "eventual swoon" curse. I think by us letting go of Sparky and Ernie....well perhaps God might have said "good trade" and stabilized the Olde English D's end of season ship of state. Then again maybe Miggy did stop partying so hard....

I just think you need to throw away the pitch count when your talking about JV. It doesn't apply. He's locating 101 mph fastballs in start number 32 on the year. If he were tired you'd already see it. Plus I trust he'd tell Jimmy to pull him if he thought he needed it.

I agree with you. It's the best stuff JV has had since the Angels game. He'll pitch the 7th for sure. When his stuff is this electric I think you let him find his control with it as long as you can. If he puts it together at this point in the season, watch out.

Rest for the playoffs? The game seems in hand as well.

Yes but what is the downside of limiting his pc in this instance?

I think it's better to save the bullpen then to sit verlander down, never know, penny could be pulled in the 3rd tomorrow. I think that is why Jimmy has penny pitching after verlander, to have the bullpen at full strength during his starts.

0 downside, and and the upside is some bullpen guys probably needs some in-game work.

Expanded rosters.

There are a lot of guys in the bullpen, even if Penny sucks tomorrow we're in no danger with the BP rest issues.

Honestly, I think you keep everything as regular as possible with him right now. It's working. Don't do anything different to break his rhythm. He normally pitches 7 innings and throws at least 110 pitches. Now that we have a 5-0 lead we'll see if he comes back out. I don't care either way, I just think he's that rare pitcher that doesn't get a tired arm.

Especially when you consider that the other starters minus Penny has gone 6 IP or more..

Tigers 7th inning,

Jackson strikes out swinging,

Santiago fouls a fastball back, high chopper back to pitcher and takes a bounce away from pitcher fielding and a single, now a replay shows we might have caught a break the ball went of Santiago's foot, haha,

pitching change thornton out and frasor in,

Young waits throw to first, first pitch check swing fouled and nick Cabrera in the on dog circle, crazy ugly bimbos and drunk wsox fans yell at Miguel, what is it something in the chicago water? throw to first, again, fastball fouled back, fastball fouled back, slider low, Young waits for frasor chases a high fastball and fouls it back, grounder to third throws to second and Santiago with a clean take out slide of beckham Young safe at first extends the inning,

Cabrera fastball off the corner, swings and misses a changeup low, takes a fastball low, fastball up and in several pitches in on Tigers batters tonight, changeup and it's drilled down the left field line and Young scores all the way from first on Cabrera's double,

Tigers lead 5 - 0,

Martinez fastball high, fastball strike call, swings and misses changeup low, fastball outside, called strike three inside corner,

Tigers lead 5 - 0.
