Tigers vs. yankees ALCS Game Thread 1 Oct. 13

FOXD Tigers post game, Rod, Mario, John and Craig all discussing options for closer roll, all of em, wow I think it's going to happen. I feel more relaxed now, and we've got over 1000 posts on this game thread now. wow

Peralta 3-5, thats gotta be the most hits he has had in a game in a long time. Showed up with defense too.

I wonder about his defense especially the first one. If he had better range would the first ball be easier to get?

Man, Swisher is getting ripped hard over at ESPN.

Makes what people say here about Valverde and Smokes look like a love song.

Nice work everyone...1000 posts....I did see part of jimmy's presser ...He said they would discuss the closers role with his staff tonight and in the morning...

i hope they make up a disease for him to have so we can replace him on the roster with marte or downs (yanks have lots of lefties).

Honestly there really has to be something going on with him and I am not just saying that because he has been horrible. His velocity has dipped significantly from 95-98 last season to 90-92 constantly. Unfortunately when he is throwing 90% fastballs with the lower velocity and next to no movement he is getting hammered.

Something like tendinitis in the pitching shoulder is probably going to be discussed as something he is dealing with so lmao.

"Hey Valverde are you hiding an injury?"
"No, I feel good"
"Naw I think you have an injury"
"No, I'm fine"
"Yeah ok look..."

What's wrong with the closer role?

Just overcome with a JV complete game the next game, or a Delmon clutch hit in extra innings afterward.

That's what I'm saying. I usually just say fk and 10 minutes later its alright.

same for me

been enough failed sports teams I've followed that I've gotten numb to it....but losing in that fashion was something entirely different. Self inflicted to that degree is just tough to watch...much like the strausburg reference I made earlier in the thread. If I was a Nat fan I'd be so fucking pissed versus having put the best team out there and losing. Same result but totally different.

500 of those posts have "what the hell", "fire Leyland" or "fucking Valverde" in them.

I wasn't posting here last night because I was watching the game with my parents who are visiting...but wow...just wow.

Postseason baseball is just a crazy beast. First one of the most colossal meltdowns by a closer in all of postseason history, imo...giving the Yankees new life and spark that they haven't had for the last two weeks...then that spark gets extinguished by a devastating injury to their captain. If they lose 4-2 they just move on to the next day, but extra innings proved to be a curse rather than a blessing. It is just a strange strange game.

BTW, did anyone notices how many empty seats there were in the 9th inning??? Had these idiots not WATCHED Valverde all year then into this postseason? That's pathetic. Fucking Yankees fans. Morons...

I was going to say something along the lines of the ticket prices but they have way more affordable tickets left than detroit does.

The seats the cameras were catching most often were down by the field tho...and those are running 500-2k per ticket. But with the largest fanbase in the largest city in the USA it's a pretty horrible showing...

Jeter can actually blame himself for that injury too. They had a runner on 3rd with 2 outs in the 10th innning and he flew out to right field.

And what a game for Peralta...3-5 with a walk and 2 great plays in the field...and he killed Derk Jeter with that ground ball.

I know Peralta has had a tough year but I thing he will be back next season.

He is limited from a range standpoint but he's as sure handed as anyone that is on the FA market.

good to see him having a strong postseason.

Most of those seats down by the field are corporate seats, and a lot of them remain empty at any game, or the ones that go on the market are not affordable for most of us. I was there last night on $105 a ticket seats (list price + ticket master "convenience" charge), and I was up in the third tier above Avisail, so I will need to take a look at my dvr today to see what really happened in a lot of this game. And at least 50% of the fans streamed out of the stadium in the middle of the ninth inning. The majority of people there arrive by subway, it was late at night and cold, and even with Valverde's recent travails, I don't think anyone really expected that half inning to go down like it did.

I stayed and the cold caught up to me in the extra innings; it was a combination of not having another Tiger fan in sight, other than the ones in the corporate seats near the dugout, coupled with shivering in frustration at Valverde's meltdown, coupled with the steadily increasing wind in the stadium.

Overall, it was a pretty interesting game, and the first playoff game that I have had the option to attend. Let's hope for a smoother ride this afternoon.
