The foul call had nothing to do with Ibanez. You can't punish the Tigers because an ump made a quick mistake and fixed it (Although they love punishing the Tigers this season)

It had everything to do with him. He saw Welke signal foul, so he lollygagged after the ball down in the corner where the ballboy sits, if it was a fair call the whole time there might have been a play at the plate.

I agree you can't penalize the Tigers, but saying it had nothing to do with Ibanez is about as wrong as you can get.

Ibanez didn't even complain. His eyes were down the whole time on the replay. He ran to the ball and missed it, he didn't pull up like he would if he thought it was foul. If he thought it was foul he wouldn't have kept running after it and would have let the ball boy get it.

I don't think he was arguing it was foul, just that the Ump called it foul then changed the call when his left fielders back was turned.

I'm watching the game on YES network, and both the Yankee commentators agree that it looks like Ibanez was unaffected by what Welke did. Ibanez booted it with it kicking up chalk right underneath him, and ran after the ball with his back to Welke while Welke signalled a fair ball. Ibanez certainly knew it was fair when he booted it, and he would have heard Welke calling it fair as he ran after it. Yankees are just trying to take advantage of every small thing, as they always do.
