Get StartedProtest the game? What's that going to do? They aren't going to do anything about it, just move on.
That's a dead ball. Can't make it live again. That, I imagine, is Gerardi's complaint.
And the game would be resumed from that point if the circumstances do not change. I'd expect Leyland to protest.

You're right about the call, and Girardi was right to be pissed, but I don;t see a protest.
Tigers didn't even protest Galarraga's 28 out perfect game, it's just not something that's ever done.
The ball clearly kicked up chalk when it hit.Re The Welke Report.
If he called the ball "foul" after the ball hit the ground, he cannot reverse it, and if Gerardi is smart, he will protest this game.
Don't know how anyone can claim the ball hit chalk when it landed on the grass.
This is extremely unlikely to happen.

PROTESTING GAMES.
Each league shall adopt rules governing procedure for protesting a game, when a manager claims that an umpire?s decision is in violation of these rules. No protest shall ever be permitted on judgment decisions by the umpire. In all protested games, the decision of the League President shall be final.
Even if it is held that the protested decision violated the rules, no replay of the game will be ordered unless in the opinion of the League President the violation adversely affected the protesting team?s chances of winning the game.
Rule 4.19 Comment: Whenever a manager protests a game because of alleged misapplication of the rules the protest will not be recognized unless the umpires are notified at the time the play under protest occurs and before the next pitch, play or attempted play. A protest arising on a game-ending play may be filed until 12 noon the following day with the league office.
Basically, Girardi had to announce his protest right then for it to even be considered.
The ball clearly kicked up chalk when it hit.
They put chalk on the grass?
I know the protest rules. And do you know for a fact that Gerardi didn't protest the game?
I will guarrrrante you that Gerardi protests this game if the Yankees lose. I would.
You can't protest a judgement call.
The last successful protest of a game was in 1986. Good luck.
