Tigers vs. yankees Game Thread August 9

Tigers get a gift call. 20 more of those & will even out the shit calls from earlier this year.

Protest the game? What's that going to do? They aren't going to do anything about it, just move on.

That's a dead ball. Can't make it live again. That, I imagine, is Gerardi's complaint.

And the game would be resumed from that point if the circumstances do not change. I'd expect Leyland to protest.

How many infield singles is that? 4 or 5? Remember that game earlier this year where Porcello gave up like 5 infield hits, it was maddening. Nice to know the Yank fans are suffering the same right now.

You're right about the call, and Girardi was right to be pissed, but I don;t see a protest, Tigers didn't even protest Galarraga's 28 out perfect game, it's just not something that's ever done.

Think they ph for dirks if rapada stays in? young or raburn, screw that.

This is extremely unlikely to happen.

PROTESTING GAMES.
Each league shall adopt rules governing procedure for protesting a game, when a manager claims that an umpire’s decision is in violation of these rules. No protest shall ever be permitted on judgment decisions by the umpire. In all protested games, the decision of the League President shall be final.
Even if it is held that the protested decision violated the rules, no replay of the game will be ordered unless in the opinion of the League President the violation adversely affected the protesting team’s chances of winning the game.
Rule 4.19 Comment: Whenever a manager protests a game because of alleged misapplication of the rules the protest will not be recognized unless the umpires are notified at the time the play under protest occurs and before the next pitch, play or attempted play. A protest arising on a game-ending play may be filed until 12 noon the following day with the league office.

Basically, Girardi had to announce his protest right then for it to even be considered.

I will guarrrrante you that Gerardi protests this game if the Yankees lose. I would.

You can't protest a judgement call.

Re The Welke Report.

If he called the ball "foul" after the ball hit the ground, he cannot reverse it, and if Gerardi is smart, he will protest this game.

Don't know how anyone can claim the ball hit chalk when it landed on the grass.
The ball clearly kicked up chalk when it hit.

This is extremely unlikely to happen.

I know the protest rules. And do you know for a fact that Gerardi didn't protest the game?

I agree with the people who think we've been SCREWED by umpires enough times this year to be due some favorable calls...

The Tigers could have asked the league to overturn the call, yes they could have. This was reported for days, and Leyland and Dombrowski both said they would not appeal to the league.

And you can;t protest a game after the fact, you can play under protest, but you can;t after a loss.

And why do you bother bunting Infante along if you're going to let Berry flail at a side-slinger. Brilliant once again, Jim...

What has happened to Benoit?

2 more HR's today after giving up 2 a few days ago.
