Tigers vs. yankees Game Thread August 9

The Tigers could have asked the league to overturn the call, yes they could have. This was reported for days, and Leyland and Dombrowski both said they would not appeal to the league.

And you can;t protest a game after the fact, you can play under protest, but you can;t after a loss.

I know. But why would you still protest after you won? It's moot.

As for Joyce's call, that could be overturned on the field.

But a ball called "foul" after it hits the ground can never be ruled fair. The ball is dead. That's one call that cannot be reversed.

Great, now Benoit serves up batting practice. What the fuck?

What the hell is going on here???????????????????????? Jesus Benoit get your fucking head out....

This is not going to be good down the stretch if he can't start keeping guys in the ballpark...

I can imagine some optimists giving the, "Hey, we drew even, that's fine." If they blow this game, HUGE opportunity missed.

This just in: According to MLB Roundup and the YES Network, the Tigers-Yankees game of August 9 is being played under protest.

In the grand scheme of wins and losses, yes.

But to the players and especially Armando Galarraga it would have been anything but moot.

Let's not forget the same day the umpire that blew the call was weeping and saying how he "ruined that kids chance at a perfect game".

Welke screwed up, and Girardi was justified in being pissed, ejected, and probably doing something that incurred a fine, but it's one of those things that won't change, win or loss.

when relief pitchers have been struggling you gotta make sure you work it out in the pen with the coaches first and be sure you've got something figured out before you bring them into close games to hold small leads. The black and white this is my 7th inning guy, this is my 8th inning guy and this is my 9th inning guy stuff shouldn't trump common sense IMO.

JB has turned into instant home run ball for the other team nowadays.. Maybe old man Dotel is better then him after all...LOL

Wow Infante....how tall did you think Peralta was?

That was close.

There's not going to be a goddamn protest if the Yankees hold the lead and win so who the fuck cares...it is not going to give a win to Kuroda at this point either way...it's pointless...

These two circumstances are not comparable.

The Tigers did not protest the "un-perfect" game, only considered getting the league to reverse the call.

Gerardi is playing this game under protest, because Welke reversed an irreversible call.

It's not good news for sure. You can't have your setup guy giving up taters especially when they are in the game with a slim lead, usually...

I feel badly for Benoit. He's a good guy on a bad streak.
