Detroit Tigers prospect Franklin Perez to undergo right shoulder surgery.

Detroit Tigers prospect Franklin Perez, one of the main trade pieces in the Justin Verlander trade, is once again having surgery. In 3 years, he pitched a total of 42 innings. Hasn't pitched since 2019. Time to stick a fork in this one.

Tigers? prospect to undergo shoulder surgery, putting future in question.

Franklin Perez was the key player in the Justin Verlander trade. Once a top-ranked prospect for the Detroit Tigers, he was quietly released in May. Cleared waivers and re-signed to a minor league deal, however he underwent shoulder surgery. He pitched only 26 innings in 3+ years.

Given the rash of injuries to their pitchers, the Detroit Tigers lack the depth in their system to cover for those on the IL and rookies who will soon be under pitching limits.

But you can see why Manning was called up. #6 Joey Wentz and #9 Alex Faedo are both on the IL. #22 Beau Burrows was just released.

Who's left out of their top 30 prospects? #23 Jack Hess, #25 Alex Lange (IL), #26 Jason Foley, #28 Keider Montero and #30 Paul Richan. Only Foley is in AAA.

At one time I thought (Verlander) 250 wins was a lock and maybe a chance to get 275. Those 2 years of not playing snuff's that out.

That's one guy I wouldn't bet against. I thought he was on fumes when we traded him and the guy turned around and pitched 3 years of the best baseball of his career in his mid 30's. He's at 226 wins now. If he decides(assuming he's able) to pitch til he's 45 we'd be talking about maybe 300

those 2 years really hurt. Well, his chances for the wins, but not his bank account. He got a $66M contract to pitch 6 innings...well, $45M because of the COVID shortened season.

If he's got Nolan Ryan Blood you are correct.

who knows...he was with the cheating Astros. Maybe he was cheating too?

He will be 38 years old and given he only pitched in one game in 2020, his last "full season" was in 2019. It will be 2022 when he pitches again.

I will bet against him.

What you mean maybe. Of course he was cheating. But he was a great pitcher before Astros and his last 6 starts with Detroit he was 2.06. I suspect he figure something out here rather than all the crap about the Astros figuring it out for him.

YOU MAKE THE CALL.
Totally Tigers

You Make the Call is the segment where readers must make a decision.

Every week we identify an issue that is going on with the Tigers. And it?s an issue that must be resolved by A.J. Hinch.

Readers must choose one decision from the 2 or 3 offered as the one you feel is the best way to address the issue.

As always, we ask readers to take some time to comment and explain their rationale. Please remember to keep your comments to the 4-sentence maximum rule.

Let?s kick this off!

With Jake Rogers out for a long time after Tommy John Surgery, what will the catching position look like in 2022?

Should the Tigers look to add another catcher in the off-season or roll with what they have? You make the call.

Should the Tigers add another catcher in the off-season or roll with what they have?

1. Add another catcher.

2. Stick with Haase and Garneau.
