Verlander traded to Houston, TJ Surgery, Wins 2 WS, Wins 3rd Cy Young, a Met, Astro again

And this is why the Astros made him a QO yesterday.
Free agent Justin Verlander has reached 95-96 mph in recent bullpen sessions, as Harold Reynolds said this morning on MLBNetwork.
Verlander, who turns 39 before next season, has said he wants to pitch until age 45.

People you have no SS.. the worst CF defense in baseball.. 3.5 good SP..but you wanna spend 25M a year on a 39 year old coming off TJ.. WTF is a matter with you people?

BTW while you ignore Jon Heyman? ignore unamed sources and Carlos Correa signing ideas too.. man you people are thirsty.

Dear baseball twitter stop repeat stop listening to anything Jon Heyman the human billboard tweets.

Jon Heyman:
One interesting possibility heard: Could Justin Verlander return to the Tigers? He loved it there, and he obviously has a link to AJ Hinch, too. Detroit is still shopping.

Listen you dumb walking billboard .. DET isnt paying a 39 year old off TJ a ton of money that?s the LAA job.

Former Detroit Tiger Justin Verlander has until today to accept or decline Houston's QO. It is expected that he will turn it down for a multi-year deal worth more money. But it is expected that he will make a decision this week.....

The Yankees are said to have the inside edge. JV did his showcase at the Eric Cressey Sports Performance Center. Cressey is the Dir. of Player Health and Performance for the Yankees. Rumors say he wants to reunite with former teammate Gerritt Cole.

Playing for the Yankees would give him continual access to Cressey who is one of the tops in the game. Especially important for JV who will be 39 soon and wants to pitch until he's 45.

FIVE FOR FRIDAY.

Two pitchers familiar to the Tigers were signed this week. Of course, Eduardo Rodriguez, who is coming to Detroit. And then, the familiar face who used to pitch for this team. JV.

So now, it?s official. It?s ?no see JV.?

And the Verlander signing is the topic for this week because it does shed some light on one of the fans? favorites as well as the Tigers? strategy.

Here are my 5 biggest thoughts on JV staying in Houston???

This week, former Tiger Justin Verlander signed a contract to return to the Houston Astros. He will earn $25 million this year and if he so chooses, will earn another $25 mill next year as well. He will be 39 in a few short months and this contract could take him just months shy of age 41. He has expressed a desire to pitch until he is 45.

JV has only pitched 6 innings since 2019 during his former contract extension with Houston in which he earned $66 mill. He had Tommy John surgery during this time.

In Detroit, JV was sidelined for extensive periods with 2 major injuries to his core muscles and triceps.

In a pitching preview 10 days ago, Verlander was throwing 94-97 MPH. He last threw a complete season in 2019.

JV remains a Tiger fan favorite and former franchise face. The Tigers did attend his pitching showcase but it was reported that there was not serious interest.

If it were up to you, would you have offered JV a 2-year $50 million contract? Should he have returned as part of a reunion for fans? Do you feel that he could have been an important part of rebuilding this team to contention status?

Or is there too much risk involved? Is the contract too expensive? Or have the Tigers moved on and now need to be focused on other priorities?

What say you, fans?

Should the Tigers have made a 2-year $50 mill offer to Justin Verlander?

1. Yes

2. No

Free agency mystery: Justin Verlander?s $50M, 2-year Astros deal (w/opt out) never was announced and presumably is not official. That means Verlander and Astros have to wait to finalize until a new CBA is done. It is unclear why the deal reported 2 weeks ago is now in limbo.
Well, this is interesting.... JV's deal with the Astros isn't official 2 weeks after being reported. Thought it was strange that JV didn't announce it on his Twitter feed.
