Verlander traded to Houston, TJ Surgery, Wins 2 WS, Wins 3rd Cy Young, a Met, Astro again

Justin Verlander has allowed 3 ER..in his last 41 innings.. spanning 6 starts.
At this rate he is either going to win another Cy Young Award or finish second again.

He was not the same JV his last couple years here. Suddenly he went to an out of this world level AFTER leaving. Seems to me that's on JV more than the Tigers. He Obviously wasn't bringing HIS a game at the end here.

Also, the main piece physically falling apart after getting here at 20 years old is bad luck. He was more than holding his own in AA as a 19 year old which is phenomenal. Calling this the worst trade in mlb history is a stretch.

He was dealing with that core muscle injury for some of those years and was runner up for the Cy Young Award while still in Detroit in 2016, so he had gotten it back and it has continued ever since,

It's the trade that keeps on hurtin'.

Not only does JV lead MLB in ERA, he also leads it in wins with 14. In any other town, trading away a player of this caliber (along with millions and a prospect) for 3 meager prospects, would get a GM fired.

2022 AL ERA Leaders:
Justin Verlander (1.81)
Dylan Cease (2.01)
Shane McClanahan (2.07)
Alek Manoah (2.43)

Justin Verlander has a 1.73 ERA this season.

Since 1913, only 2 pitchers at age 39 or older had a lower ERA through their first 20 starts of a season:
2005 Roger Clemens (1.40)
1915 Eddie Plank (1.69)

Last 7 starts for Justin Verlander:
0.76 ERA / .176 OBA / 0.80 WHIP / 46-8 K-BB / 1 R or less in ALL 7.

Gerrit Cole runs given up in the first inning August 3: 6

Justin Verlander runs given up since June 19th: 5

Not enough people are talking about how the Justin Verlander tenure with the
Astros could be the greatest ~4 year stretch ever.

missing 2 seasons due to injury would disqualify him from having he best 4 year stretch. From 2020-2021 he made over $45M and only pitched in one game.

Verlander and Max and JD

Why didn?t we just Keep them all ?

Baseball has no salary cap.

deGrom is the most dominant SP in baseball when he's on the mound, but it can't be overstated how amazing it is that Scherzer, Verlander, & Kershaw remain among the top arms in the league. The 3 sure-fire HOFers just keep doing what they do.
