Xanders interviewing for Dolphins GM opening

You dont list money as an excuse when youre paying money to fire schwartz. You go get your guy. Mayhew let his guy get away... his fault...no one else's. Mayhew blows....again and again and again.

And again....and again...

They gassed up a plane for him. They trumpeted his name in the media like he was Vince Lombardi. They were BFFs. Then they panic hire the first guy they interview, who was never a likely candidate wouldn't sniff an offer from other teams just to clear their sour palette. It's not about Caldwell (As Grandy said earlier, who as an aside is becoming my favorite poster, no one has had a history of success here, so one stiff is as good as the next). But the process has made us a laughing stock again. This seeps down to the players who become Lionized to their prospects in a vicious and seemingly never ending cycle.

Lions are a laughing stock again because of the Caldwell hire? Oh

How is it Mayhew's fault that Whisenhunt chose Tennesse?

Are we in the bizarro world?

If Mayhew thought there was ANY chance of him not taking the job do you think there would be 18 million leaks from sources blowing the Wiz sideways? If Mayhew was smart he should have kept his mouth shut, and could have fed us the bs line Caldwell was the choice all along. The guy is a mental midget. The Wiz not choosing the Lions was not his fault. The guy made himself and the organization look retarded. But I guess he learned from the hands of the master in that regard.

where have you been the last 2 weeks? we had OCs with actual NFL experience turning down interviews cause they thought the job was a lock to whiz cause of all the leaks we put out. Mayhew KNOWS whiz personally. Whiz was our #1 TARGET. And mayhew still couldn't get it done. Its like constantly bringing in the closer and he keeps blowing the save. How is that NOT on mayhew?

Thats the media!! They blow shit up all the time. Experts and their "people on the inside" or their fn "moles".

Was Mayhew personally telling everyone that its his boy and the job is his? The Whiz was linked to us because everyone and their fn grandma knew he was a perfect fit. A discplinarian, offensive minded, QB guy. The writing was on the wall!! Whisenhunt USED the Lions to get what he wanted and it worked, its a fn business.

And the only co-ordinator that turned down an interview was Jay Gruden, that was of any relevance. Cmon.

You cant put this on Mayhew. If your old lady was sleeping with your best friend, you would somehow blame it on Mayhew

The coaching search was a farce. Be realistic.

Mayhew should have kept his mouth shut? Who was he talking to? Because all the reports i kept hearing and reading were just random reporters like Ian Rapport claiming "his sources" were telling him the job was Whisenhunts. That shit never goes away and can never be controlled. You actually think Mayhew rung up the NFLN and asked for Rappoport and told him they had a jet at Metro waiting to depart Detroit to pick up the Whiz in San Diego but gave him the hush hush? Give your head a shake, man .....omg.

Oh ok ...you know, right? Bullshit!!

Im not saying Whisenhunt wasnt their #1 choice but they had a plan B.

You can limit or gas anything in the media. Mayhew gassed him thinking it was a done deal, because it wasn't he has egg on his face. I do know that...like PeeWee Herman said in PeeWee's big adventure...I lived it.

You cant limit shit in the media, bro. Get real. The world knew Mayhew and the Whiz were boys, they played together as teammates in Washington i believe, Whisenhunt is a "QB fixer". It didnt take a genius to figure out he was probably coming to Detroit.

every one should have plan b... :p

Whiz used the pull out method on the lions

sorry, couldn't resist

You shouldn't jump on a plan B in a panic...especially when your plan B has has single handedly lost your team a playoff game because hes an idiot....

Caldwell's explanation afterward made no sense.

"They were in field-goal range,"€? he said. "€œSo we wanted to try to make them snap the ball as many times as they possibly could. Wasn't going to let them just sit there and take (the clock) down. So (we) used a timeout in that situation."€?

Yeah he better not do that here. The big kick return by the Jets played a part as well as poor Indy CBs giving him a 9 and 11 yard completion before that TO was even called putting Jets in FG range. They were already in FG range. However, they allowed the Jets to regroup and save thier last timeout. Of course the defense could have made a play and not allowed the 18 yard completion after getting a breather and a chance to regroup too. And of course, the Jets could have spiked the ball instead and still got off another play and went out of bounds or in bounds still having that last time out. It wasn't singlehandily since they were in FG range but it's something Caldwell better have learned from. No coach is mistake free. Still a 10-6 season after a 14-2 season.

Didn't Schwartz get ripped for not taking the time out? Damed if you do damed if you dont.

The Jets had possession, as did the Lions, completely different situations. To be similar, the Giants would have had to call a TO, which would have stopped the clock for the Lions O to perhaps attempt another play or plays before time ran out. But it sure seemed like Gym Shorts was bound and determined to send the game into OT regardless, so Stafford still might have taken a knee afterward, anyway.
