Yoenis Cespedes - Cuban CF

There were a lot of people that were high on Darko when he was coming out...Yes it looks foolish looking back on it but many things do and players can flop in any professional sport...Hmmm...Not a Pistons board so I better throw some baseball talk in here... GO TIGERS!!!! Haha

Cespedes might become the 21st century versions of former A's All-Stars Ricky Henderson and Reggie Jackson combined, they hope?

Gotta admit that the A's franchise has had some legendary players on their teams over the decades, a few who wound up becoming Yankees during the latter part of their prime seasons.

Mitch[/color]]Dude, this guy isn't going to make people go see Oakland games.

Maybe he wont, but like michiganmania kind of hinted at, you can't be sure until the games are actually played. Maybe he will be able to pick up on Major League breaking balls and will turn into an all-star.

It will be interesting to see how he handles coming over here.

An all star from Cuba is not a gate getter.

Some have asked "why Oakland?" and it's a fair question. My take is that Oakland, still in negotiations with MLB to go further south in the Bay area, will get a bigger demand from the techies and others with big $$$ once they see how this guy and the A's are playing. Hopefully, much better, they think. Big gamble? You betcha. But I wouldn't necessarily bet against Billy Beane.

I think this is right on. They want desperately to move to San Jose to get their hands on some of that glorious tech $$$ and work the SJ population base (it has more than twice the population of Oakland, with a much higher percentage Hispanic).

The kid is 26 years old and has not played in the majors which means he is still going to grow as a player and should get better...Whether or not he pans out we most likely will not know for a couple of years. I do not expect to see him go crazy this year or anything. If he can get on base he has the speed to swipe some bags at least and get into scoring position.

Why not? If he is an all-star, he will draw a crowd no matter where he is from.

Inge was an all-star. And people weren't coming to see him, outside a few fan club people.

Ok, you picked somebody that was an all-star for one year. Also, the Tigers had 3 other all-stars that year. Having an all-star is going to help your ticket sales. Do you think that us having Miggy helps bring in people? That is obviously on the other end of the spectrum from Inge when talking about all-stars, but good players bring fans, and IF he is an all-star while in Oakland, I think he will bring in fans.

My point is anyone can make an all star game. And most fans come if you're winning. It could help away but he'd need to be a stud. I used to go see the Tigers when Guidry was pitching. But if he gets an as game in 2013 on an Oakland team that is 29-59 he won't bring squat. It'll be easier if he was a pitcher.

You laugh at my Inge example and then bring up Miguel, lol. So now he's Miguel Cabrera?

I clearly stated that Miguel was on the other end of the spectrum. Bringing this up just says that you didn't even read what I typed, and it is tough to have a conversation with somebody that isn't even reading what is being typed to them :/

And an all-star will bring in more fans than a non all-star.

Why do you say that? The kid's the hottest prospect in baseball right now and has "superstar" potential. Who knows if he becomes one but the kid has the goods. You can't sit there and say that people are not interested in going to see a budding superstar playing in their hometown. people want to know who's playing on their favorite baseball team. Therefore, you buy tickets to see him "in person". How can you say different?

In Miami, Cespedes would have sold a shitload of tickets.

In Oakland, not so many.

Yeah, he definitely would have gotten a big reaction in Miami, but this is a very surprising snag for Oakland, I if I was an Oakland fan, I would definitely try to see him play. It at least gives them some hope that they are trying to win for a little bit lol.

Hottest prospect? Hahaha. How about the Darvish kid or the guy rated #1 prospect for the Angels or some of those other guys. And he's going to a 3rd place Oakland team. He could be all that but right now he's just another player. And he's not even that much younger than Fielder. So as prospects go, he's weak.

If anything hes intriguing. If im being honest i would have been most excited to watch him if we got him cause hes a wild card. I know what guys like Fielder and Cabrera will do....but a guy like that with a ton of potential would have been great to watch and would sell tickets. I agree though....he wont sell as many tickets in Oakland as he would have in Miami. Oakland sucks as a baseball town. All the hispanics there watch soccer and the Raiders....they dont give a fuck about baseball lol.

It's not like they do in Miami either.
