Yoenis Cespedes - Cuban CF

well, from all the rumors ive seen everyone thinks we'll end up getting him.

When does he actually become a FA? Is there a date or something?

not yet, he first has to establish residency in the dominican republic. he should be a FA soon after that.

I figure just thought there would be a timeline of some sort. But I know its not easy to defect.

it could be soon, or it could be january. noone knows yet. theres even talk he might try to get residency in mexico instead if it takes too long.

giving a percentage where do the Tigers stand on Cespedes? Will Mike Illich open the check book?
Don't believe money will be an issue in Tigers chasing Cespedes. Ilitch trusts his scouts. Question is: Where's the limit? $60 million?
At some point, you've got to draw a line. If, say, the Yankees are as committed as the Tigers, guess who wins the bidding war for Cespedes?

I'm probably wrong but the NYY don't ever seem much interested in going after International FA.

The years are worrisome for the most part, but if he turns out 7.5m per year might not be so bad. Alternetly you can give him 3 years he turns into a stud and then he gets Pujols money? Compared to fa this season, he might be a bargain. Surprised the Marlins aren't offering him huge money.

somehow, for whatever reason, i just dont think johnson has been on the team's radar this offseason unless theyre being really sneaky about it. they must not like him much for some reason.

There's a consensus among international MLB people that the Yankees are "BIG" on Yoenis Cespedes, according to Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus.
Cespedes is close to establishing residency in the Dominican Republic, reports Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes. The Cuban outfielder still needs to secure a license from the Office of Foreign Assets Control since his residency is not permanent. The process could take two weeks, but he should be cleared to sign sometime in January.

This is from the rumor section yesterday morning so take it for what its worth, in regards to the Yankees:

The New York Yankees appear to be on the sidelines this time around when it comes to pursing this winter's high-priced international talent.

Marc Carig of the Star Ledger reports the Yankees will not be getting Japanese righthander Yu Darvish and adds they almost certainly will be on the sidelines during the pursuit of Cuban outfielder Yeonis Cespedes.

Various reports said the Yankees made only a relatively modest proposal for Darvish during last week's posting process, and Carig cites a source who says the bid will not be high enough to top those submitted by the Rangers and Blue Jays.

The Yankees have scouted Cespedes and came away believing him to be an everyday major league center fielder. But Carig says that won't be enough for the Yankees to be a factor in the bidding for Cespedes, who is believed to be looking for a deal in the six-year, $30 million range given by the Reds to Aroldis Chapman.

Yankees "BIG" on Cespedes

Can't see the Yankees standing largely pat, and not attempting to make at least one notable acquisition during this off-season, esp. since they were pretty quickly eliminated from the last postseason, courtesy of our Tigers...haha!!

The newer Yankee Stadium ticket-prices are mostly not what you could call reasonably priced, so they will need to do something to pacify season-ticket holders, and generate some exciting pre-season buzz in the media about the team, IMO.
