Youre the GM

They were a mediocre team in 2012. Wouldn't call that defending them with shit De, safety play, RB with no Best and bad special teams (2 games coverage, every game returns and punting). Much better team in 2013 but lost games they shouldn't have.

Schedule is pretty similar for Detroit in 2014. at Zona, Giants, Bucs. Get another nice shot against all 3. Wins this time? We'll see. You all just said we should have won those games.

3-3 division. Again that is very probable after a 4-2 year. Lions could get swept by Pack(with Rodgers back for the home game) and still finish 3-3 in division. But we got a great shot in the home game if we do what we did on Thanksgiving to their Oline and defense.

at Carolina, at Panthers. 2 losses. So 6-5

Better win at Jets, home vs Bills and Dolphins. 9-5. Boils down to Saints in Detroit and the London game vs Atlanta, Bucs, Giants and at Zona. Can lose one of those games only.

Lions 4-2 division again, then it's more comfortable. Sweep Bears again and sweep Vikings if you don't like beating Rodgers. Then you can lose 2 of those NFC games I mentioned.

With Calvin I think they could be 5-1 in this division but that is an argument for another day.

Well that's the optimistic view. I hope you're right. Right now I wouldn't be putting anything down as automatic since we just lost 6 of 7.

People said we lost games we should have won especially the Bucs and Giants. We get another shot. hughes thought they were cupcakes.

4-2 in the division in 2013 with Calvin missing the 2 losses. So 3-3 seems about right. Lost 6 of 7 but swept Bears. Is sweeping Bears automatic or only the losses?

They could surely lose to Buffalo, Miami or Jets or 2 or more against Saints, Bucs, at Zona, vs Falcons and Giants. But they have the talent and hopefully coaching soon, to avoid that.

Everyone blamed the coaching when bashing Schwartz and Linehan. We're getting new coaching.

They were. This year. KC, Philly, Arizona were cupcakes in 2012. Every year is a new one. Well unless you are a Lions fan.

At this point, I don't think anything is automatic. We'll have to see what we do in free agency and the draft before I think it's at all realistic to make predictions. I never make a prediction until right before the season starts because you never know if someone will get injured during training camp or the preseason.

Well they were in the beginning, not when the Lions played them. Bucs and Giants were better teams in the stretch the Lions played them than in the first half.

at Zona is a tough game. Not as tough as at Seattle or at San Fran. Lions have a good shot like they did in 2013.

Injuries starting 3rd Quarter of season can kill a season. Missing Calvin 2 divison games among other injuries(Waddle(Phi/Min), Ansah(Pit), Houston(Bal,NYG/Min), Bentley(NYG/Min), Slay (Bal/NYG),Quin(Pit), Bush (Phi), Bell(Pit), Mathis (NYG), Pettigrew (NYG/Min) can kill a season too.

Look at the teams left in the playoffs on that chart.

Carolina - $0
SF- $0
NO - $17.4
Seattle - $0
Denver - $30
NE $13.8
Bengals - $0
Indy - $0

Yeah we aren't exactly in pole position cap wise Tom. Those teams have drafted better than us though at key positions or have elite quarterbacks. Or more likely both.

Oooh, now do GB and Chi.

It's the NFL, injuries happen every game, to every team. If you want to make a prediction, stick to it. Otherwise predictions are worthless. That's why it makes no sense to me to make a prediction until towards the end of the preseason.

Why do only training camp injuries matter. And the Lions were 6-3. At that point, people were dead wrong that thought they wouldn't be good. Then the injuries happened and turnovers mounted (21 in last 7 games). Not just 12 picks, 9 fumbles too.

Injuries happen to every team. Good teams can overcome them with depth. The Lions have no depth.

Because the season hasn't started yet, that's why. Injuries to star players make people's predictions wrong. Deal with it. People make predictions to try and have fun and prove their knowledge to other people.

People who predicted records like 7-9 still had a chance to be correct when the Lions were 6-3. Turns out they were correct unfortunately. Let them have their pride for correctly predicting the record right. It's a lot less fun to predict a bad record and be right about it than it is to predict a good record and be right about it.

were not a complete team because the almighty Stafford needs EVEN MORE pieces around him in order to be successful. So next year when we draft a shit ton of wrs and we still fail as a team we can blame how shitty the defense was lol.

The depth got hurt too. Houston hurt, so was Slay and Mathis and Bentley in the Giants game. This led to Greenwood on the field. But he did well.

Pit game. Ansah and Jones. Devin Taylor and Idonije are decent depth but not full time.

at Pit. Both Burleson and Broyles hurt. Leads to Ross playing and of course Durham always on the field.

Ravens game Houston was hurt and the depth of Slay was hurt. Had to turn to Green and Mathi.

Steeler game, Quin hurt , Carey had to play nickel not safety because Bentley was hurt so this led to Gomes playing. Carey did well at safety in 2012, sucks in the slot other than the at Chi game Carey did well at slot.

Houston, Green and Bentley out for Vikings game. This lead to Carey at nickel. Carey did well at safety 2012 but blows at nickel CB.

Waddle was the depth and played great. Fox blows though I'll give you that for the Vikings and Packer game. Hilliard was hurt for Packer game though and they didnt make the switch to Waddle yet.

Houston out against Pack at home, Slay good depth that game.

Bush out vs Zona, Bell is good depth but didn't play well at Zona. Bell did well at Washington for Bush. Bell did decent at Eagles but 2 blizzard fumbles. Plus no Waddle hurt the run game.

And then Calvin. 2 away division games and limited against Giants. All 3 huge games. No WR 1 depth. Agree with that but Mayhew had bigger positions to fix last offseason.

anyone else wonder if lkp keeps a journal of all these meaningless facts? lol

They had no clue that would happen. It took major injuries, miracle FGs, blizzards, a non called block in the back against Vikings and some fluke turnovers (last 2 Bucs game) and a Stafford tough streak after a 19 TD and 7 int start. Anyone that stuck to 7-9 after a 6-3 start is just a pure hater.
