Youre the GM

I'll repeat, Mayhew has not done a good job providing WRs for Stafford. But I think that'll change this offseason.

All Mayhew needs is to use a 1st round pick. He hasn't missed yet with that first pick.

Agreed. He's hit on his first rounders. Watkins or Lee can come in here and make a difference right away just due to speed and serparation, Evans takes a year in my mind but can turn out to be a Jeffery level talent.

Agreed. With Round 1 you get size and speed. As long as they have good character and work hard, they should be productive players. Still risk but it's like that with any position. Round 2 you have to dig a little deeper and take more character risks on WR. Mayhew's charcter and injury risk didn't work out too well. He stocked the RB and TE weapons enough though and has Calvin in his back pocket (26.6 PPG without a good number 2 WR all seaosn or number 3 in half the season).

Bears offense took off. Wasn't just Trestman, it was the Oline getting together for them finally and Jeffrey having a break out year on top of adding Bennett. Did any of those 4 (Masrhall, Jeffrey, Bennett, Forte even miss more than a game? Life was easy for Cutler and McCown.

8-4 Steelers finish, 5-3 Ravens, 9-3 Eagles finish, 7-3 Giants finish. Bucs i midst 4 out of 5 when they played the Lions. They weren't the Weeks 1-4 versions.

That's how I fucking proved it.

I agree with LKP...we suck.

We don't suck, just faced hot teams and had a turnover issue. It's the illusion of suck.

Wasn't that your schtick last year? That we were a super team in 2012 it was just a fluke/illusion of suck. How did that work out?

what he doesn't realize is the coincidence that every team that plays us is on a "hot streak" lol. When we make every team look awesome...its cause we suck.

They were a worse team in 2012 at DE, safety and RB, run defense and run blocking and special teams. Plus the LBs played worse in 2012. They were a 4-12 that was really a .500 team last year. The special teams 2 losses and some crazier turnovers. Though the Bucs game final 2 turnovers were pretty crazy this year. Nothing else was really crazy but tipped balls and balls off hands are really pissing me off. And the blocked FGs against Cincy and Arizona I'll let you decide if blocked FGs are flukes. Martin one botched punt on the year. Very bad timing for that. I'll let you decide if playing in 8 inches of snow is a normal occurence too.

They are turnover prone but the talent is there for 10-11 wins. They were a 7-9 team that is really a 10-11 win team talent wise this time.

We'll see if the 10-11 finally shines through again like 2011 in 2014.

Its not a hot streak just because they beat us. It's a hot streak because they beat a bunch of other teams too. Steelers, Eagles and Giants and Bucs were playing their best ball of the season at that point. That is a fact.

This all makes sense. Why were you defending that horrid 2012 version of the Lions then. And the problem is we were a 10-11 win team THIS year. Who says the schedule/injury gods will be so kind?

I think the biggest problem with the Lions is the so called "big 3" and how much of the cap they eat up. The constant restructuring acts as a band aid but the problem of significant holes / lack of depth will almost always exist. The player that probably needs to go is Suh because as mentioned earlier in the thread it is going to be next to impossible to trade Stafford or CJ. My guess is as long as they keep all three, they will continue to play at or near .500 and won't have playoff success due to lack of depth and lack of a complete team.

The defense is talentless without Suh. Everyone talks about how good our dline is Suh is what makes it so. Without him its an off and on Fairley and a raw DE in Ansah. We need him.

Lots of teams have a significant amount of their cap locked up in a big 3. Denver is one of them

Peyton Manning QB 37 5 yr $96,000,000 $19,200,000 $58,000,000 2017
Ryan Clady LT 27 5 yr $52,500,000 $10,500,000 $15,000,000 2018
Champ Bailey CB 35 4 yr $42,500,000 $10,625,000 $14,500,000 2015

Miller will fill Bailey's void after this year as a big 3. I don't think anyone would be complaining about being in Denver's situation.

We need Stafford to perform. Suh and CJ are all pros, they are performing like a big three.

grandy posted cap hits for the big 3 of each team a little while ago.....Denver wasn't even in the top 10. but to your point...staff needs to earn his money or youll have to blow up this team and start from scratch.

I don't mind paying a star QB the money. Clady is arguably the best LT in the league which is a more important position than DT. I don't think a team needs a WR that eats up that much cap space. Look at the teams left in the playoffs. Only Steve Smith and Harvin are at the top of the pay scale as far as WRs are concerned.

I agree DT and WR might not be the best positions to lock up that kind of money but you have to pay talent where you can find it. RB isn't an impact position in this man's NFL either but no one is arguing AP's salary. You need your talent to play up to it or else you get Chris Johnson. Only Stafford hasn't. And Suh in my books is as disruptive as a DE which is a top notch position. Believe me we need Suh. Hopefully Mayhew and the Wiz realize this.

They were a mediocre team in 2012. Wouldn't call that defending them with shit De, safety play, RB with no Best and bad special teams (2 games coverage, every game returns and punting). Much better team in 2013 but lost games they shouldn't have.

Schedule is pretty similar for Detroit in 2014. at Zona, Giants, Bucs. Get another nice shot against all 3. Wins this time? We'll see. You all just said we should have won those games.

3-3 division. Again that is very probable after a 4-2 year. Lions could get swept by Pack(with Rodgers back for the home game) and still finish 3-3 in division. But we got a great shot in the home game if we do what we did on Thanksgiving to their Oline and defense.

at Carolina, at Patriots. 2 losses. So 6-5

Better win at Jets, home vs Bills and Dolphins. 9-5. Boils down to Saints in Detroit and the London game vs Atlanta, Bucs, Giants and at Zona. Can lose one of those games only.

Lions 4-2 division again, then it's more comfortable. Sweep Bears again and sweep Vikings if you don't like beating Rodgers. Then you can lose 2 of those NFC games I mentioned.

With Calvin I think they could be 5-1 in this division but that is an argument for another day.

According to this Denver is worse off than us. Rams are screwed but can jettison Bradford. We can't.

We can extend Suh to get 7-8 million in room this season. Calvin can restructure for about 3.2 million in room adding 800 K each year(2015-2018). Far from screwed cap wise.

The restructures paid for Tulloch, Levy, Quin and Bush and make Stafford and Suh's cap numbers 8.2 and 9.1 million dollars higher this year and Suh 9.1 in 2015.

The cap casualties are Delmasn and Burleson (11 million in room). Guys most of you want gone anyway. Last year the cap casualties were (KVB, Peterman) who everyone wanted gone and Raiola/Burleson taking pay cuts (which everyone was cool with too).
