2015 Cap

Turns out to be $1.7, $500,000 more than "your most" of $1.2

I was way way closer to the "extra" cap space used. You were taking off over 4 million in additional space when it really takes 1.7 in additional space to sign them.

I explained how I view the cap, $23mil with 39 players signed. $4.25mil for 6 rookies, which was balls on. Even considering the players they have signed since the end of the season is an exercise I don't even want to consider. I look at who I think will make the team and/or FA I would like for them to sign, you can play the add and subtract game all ya want, bottom line my number of $4.25mil was almost perfect unlike your error of over 40% off.

The futures deals are placeholders right now. The people who make the team will have similar cap hits other than a few free agents (Suh, new guard etc). Lions have a good amount of space either way you look at it though.

It's inaccurate to say only 39 under contract because when you add a free agent you don't reduce the full value of the 2015 cap hit. The reduction in cap is the cap hit minus the placeholder cap number (it might be zero if it's the same amount or 100k-200k if they use the vet min deduction or Rounds 3-7 rookies).

I don't need to deal with placeholders, they wont make the team and are just distractions in my book.. 14 legit players to sign and $23mil to play with plus any cuts of current legit players.FYI, I fully understand the 51 rule, etc, just 14 deals ahead of it.

Something I don't understand....

I know Suh is due to account for something like 9 million in dead space next season. Is there a way to re-sign and restructure that reduces that dead space at all, or is that pretty much a set in stone number?

No, that was the end of the line for pushing all the restructuring in his rookie contract

if he gets 17mil per season..they could go with a 16 mil signing bonus and 1 million base, then a roster bonus next year that could be converted to a signing bonus. Under this scenario it would only add 3.67mil to his cap number for 2015 if it's a 6 yr deal

It wasn't all restructure. 6 million restructure, 3 million from the option bonus that hit year 2 of his rookie deal.

They could do that. Signing bonus then option bonus in year 2. The signing bonus can only go five years though max evne on a 6 year deal. It would add 4.2 to his cap number.

We can subtrac every single future deal guy out. So when Collins signs for 500 k or Dan O or Mathis, it doesn't take up extra space. You just take the future deal amount off the top 51 list.

LKP..Doesn't take up extra space??? LKP , I though you were right again???

First, Fairley deal would be 4.33 first year and 9.83 for 16, 17

This would leave 12.1 less 7.43

George Johnson wrould get a Carey type deal
930,000 less 435,000 min- +495,000
6.97 balance

Prater is costing you 3yrs 6 mil or more
cap 2 mill-2015
4.97 balance

Muhlach will cost 700 less 435=265,000

Balance 4.6
First 6 draft picks will be 4.25 mill less 7 X 435000 or 2 mill net
2.6 balance

Practice will cost 800,000

Balance 1.8

Orlovsky will add net 300,000

1.5 balance

Mathis won't be playing for vet min.
one year deal 1.5 min

Zero

looks like tsmith was dead on about Mathis, LKP???

I never said vet min for Mathis either.

1.625 million actually but he only takes up about 1.1 million in extra room.

I copied your prediction, you said he would swap out with another player..

Yep, you were off a mi l, another mil with g johnson..

Tyron Walker cheap. Made up for it there. Walker could be better than Fairley.

Lions will have a ton of cap space next year. Got important guys back this year and got two good DTs. They still could get Blalock with a restructure. No big deal with how much space we'll have next year now.

Good offseason. Solid A.

When you lose arguably the best DT in the league....you can't get an A

So far...the BEST I can give them as of now is a C-.

Their D line is significantly weaker than it was last year, they have not addressed the weakness at O-line, they lost one of their starters at RB and have not addressed it, they have not improved their secondary. You give THAT an A???

Their Dline is still pretty good. Ngata and Ansah are beasts. Walker can rush the passer and Jones is solid. Good DE depth too. We didn't over pay for Suh and Fairley. It's an A. This defense and offense are both loaded with talent.

I agree with everything except the RB part.

Nobody gives a shit that Bush is gone. Mayhew should get praise for letting him go. We kept our starting RB's.....that roster spot will go to someone with talent!

true...but Bell is not an every down back. That is why I said D so far. They can still address holes including RB
