2016 Draft- Who ya got?

No way a new GM comes in and gets rid of Stafford. While id like Cook as a back up....he will go too high and we have WAY too many holes that demand a higher need than a back up qb. That said...we got so lucky we never had to resort to using Dan O lol. If for some odd reason he dropped to the 4th....that's the earliest I would take him just cause of how much of a bargain itd be. Goff and Lynch probably go in rd 1. Cook in early rd 2.

No, I'm not thinking they SHOULD take Cook.......just that if they did, it should not be to replace Stafford.

That's all.

If I were GM Stafford is my guy in 2016 and beyond......but, I am ABSOLUTELY upgrading the backup QB position this off season....Dan O is terrible.

Shit, I'd trade Washington a 7th for RGIII and be happy as fuck!!!

There are very few options that wouldn't be better than Orlovsky.

I hear ya, but if Cook comes to Detroit, he's not a backup for long IMO. Stafford would be shown the door. Only because of the school he went to. People were going bonkers because that loser Millen drafted Stanton and people wanted him as the starter. Hell, there were people calling into 97.1 clamoring for the Lions to bring Stanton back! lol. Imagine if Cook was here? It would be total chaos....no thanks.

If you're going to replace Stafford, the only guy I would want is Lynch. just my preference. The rest can fuck off...

I would guess similar production and W/L records while being paid like 70 mil less we could appropriate elsewhere to benefit the team. So those fans wouldn't be completely dumb to think that....

Its been 7 years and Stafford has won nothing. He got paid big based on what he could be and 1 huge year.....then he did nothing after he got his money. Hes fine....but he gets paid WAY too much to just be fine.

I look at it this way. If Stafford goes down week 10 next year with a torn ACL and the Lions are 6-4........do you want 4th or 5th round guy from North Minnesota Eastern Southshore State who some scout says has "all the intangibles to start" to come in or do you want a talented rookie with big game experience to come in for the playoff push??

The shouts from the fans will only happen if Stafford plays like shit. If he plays like he has the last 7 games there wont be anyone with any intelligence making any noise. You only get the people going bonkers if the starter is playing badly.

It doesn't have to be Cook......but I think it's time to upgrade the position in a big way.

Most of the people you're referring to would not be thinking about the money. They would solely want Cook starting on this team because he went to MSU and you know it. You actually think people wanted Stanton to start because he's cheaper? lol. Keep dreaming...

And who says we would get similar production out of Cook anyways? I just think they're similar in style...

I agree on the upgrade. I'm not denying that. DanO is a joke, but lets be honest, majority of backup QBs are jokes. Sorry, but its true.

And I'm not buying the "if Stafford plays like shit" we'll start hearing the shouts. Cook is adored in that city and it would be an immediate distraction from jump. Now, if you're bringing in Cook and you're trading Stafford right away, then I'm fine with it. I don't really want to see another rookie QB thrown to the wolves, but if their sole intention is to make Cook a starter, then I'm cool with it....I guess? lol. Kinda confusing. All I know is that the pressure would be huge on the organization and Cook himself to be drafted by the same city he plays college ball in. Horrible fit IMO...

Yes, it could be a distraction if it's Cook. But if the new GM (who probably won't have any MSU ties) thinks Cook is the best available QB.....then I'd rather have him. If there is another QB who is a better fit.....then that's fine too.

I wouldn't not take Cook just because he has MSU ties.

But I do agree, there would be a bigger distraction for an MSU alum.

I hope that if the Lions take a QB in the draft with the sole purpose of replacing Dan O, they wait until very late to do it.

If you lose your starting QB for an extended period of time, you're season is generally over. That goes for even the elite teams. Very rare is the case when a backup QB steps in and saves a season. Draft for how the season should play out, not how it might play out.

Cook looked pretty bad in the bowl game. Bamas line dominated.

Is that a typo or am I ignorant to what a peace officer is?

Sorry to say, but ignorant. From wiki, A law enforcement officer (LEO)[1] or peace officer, in North American English, is a public-sector employee whose duties primarily involve the enforcement of laws.

So...

Police officer = Peace officer??

Am I the only person here that this is news to?

Maybe but I've known for 40 years.

True. I've known forever but never hear many people say it. I never have said it.

Kiper has us taking Jarran Reed in his latest draft. I wouldn't mind that pick. As long as we take OL or DL in the first round, I'll probably be happy with the pick. Wouldn't mind Conklin as long as his knee checks out. Buckner would be the dream pick but he will likely go Top 5 or Top 10 at the very least.
