2023 Off-Season Thread

I also read that Jamaal was given a deadline to decide by free agency and did not give a response. At some point the gm needs to move on.

Obviously Jamaal wanted to test the market. Smart on him

I think we upgraded but sucks losing him. We'll see how it plays out for 2023. Montgomery has a good skill set and younger

Lions are wide open for who they can take in the draft

X WR if Jameson the Z or slot at times, Third safety and more in the box, cover LB and TE are the biggest short term needs and QB2

Beyond 2023 in no particular order, RB (unless they want to pay Swift), RG, CB (Moseley and Harrs only 1 year deals), EDGE (always need) and of course long term QB

Either Vaitai gone for a good amount of cap space or really good depth

1 year deal, maybe pushes back drafting one to next year.

Perfect. That does seem to be a Holmes MO....sign veterans on 1 year "prove it" deals in positions we need an upgrade.

Chark was a good example of that. Hughes, too.

This year it's Glasgow and Mosley. Solid vets that are playing for the next "big" contract. I know it seems like a simple method and most other teams probably try to do something similar.....but this franchise has never really done that. Just always "rolled" with who they have if they couldn't fill the void with a big name FA or a draft pick.

I'm really torn on what to do at 6. Trading down sounds so good now but we all know how that goes... need to get an offer.

If you're stuck at 6...bpa seems most logical since you have alot of your holes filled.

You can go anywhere you want at 6 but bpa would probably point to depth at RG with skoronski or Paris Johnson. Depth at cb with Witherspoon or Gonzalez. Depth at DE with tyree Wilson. Bijan?! Is jalen Carter still on their board of he falls?

So many ways you can go. Trade down and target LB? An outside the hash WR like Quentin Johnson?

Biggest need defense is pass rushing DT (though Cominsky/Paschal fill that some on passing downs). Jalen Carter would be BPA. Is he a culture fit is the question

X Receiver is the biggest need on the team right now if they don't re-sign Chark and Tight End (in play at 18 if BPA but I don't think they will be BPA). Ben Johnson said they will use Jameson all over (X, Z and slot). St Brown is more slot but sometimes outside. Reynolds is a Z not a good X. Cephus is a backup X

And then if a QB drops to 6, well you can take them no problem now leaving holes

Take Anthony Richardson at 6 and play him at outside the hash WR until he's ready to take over for Goff? Lol

2006 Lions had Josh McCown play some receiver since Kitna won the job. Might as well. Campbell knows from Taysom Hill too (TE though)

Surprised we haven't signed a back up qb yet. Minshew lock Heineke rush all got pretty cheap deals.

Mariota to eagles 5mil

Really like Minshew as a backup. I think he can play.

The lack of attention to the backup QB spot leads me to believe one will absolutely be drafted in April. I think the first 4 picks of the draft will be quarterbacks??so I think we will be looking at a 2nd or 3rd round guy.

If the first four are QBs, you want Anderson, Carter...or who?

I don?t want anything to do with Carter?.. I think he has all the talent of a HOF DT?..but all the character issues that point to a short NFL career.

After FA??I?m shocking the world and taking Bijon Robinson. Trading Swift for whatever I can get for him.

We have estimated a little more than 18 mil in cap space and need 8.3 for rookie contacts. 10mil for FAs if needed. Vatai and okwara can be dropped for more space.

Need for top 53 and ps and ir too. So like 3 to 4 million buffer

And we have less than 17 million after the last few deals. That isnt counting anzalone, moseley, glasgow, moore or badgley in that number yet

Also you can carryover. So you never lose it

Lions only carried over like 2 million. So they fully used their space in 2022

Clearly made many moves in 2023 already

Smart contracts and draft well. That is how you win
