Ansah injury

Again with the wrong. Lol. Can't you just say you disagree..?

You are wrong because you don't factor eveything in with his play and don't understand why he was a top 5 pick. Stop being disappointed in him. It's wrong to be disappointed in him.

If you want to be disappointed look at Chris Houston Weeks 4-7 and Fairley since Week 1 other than a few flashes. Though Fairley is battling a shoulder injury and isn't 100%.

I expected this to be more of a year of learning rather than a year of high production for Ansah. In addition to being fairly new to the game, he also made the jump to the pros. It's not like this is year three. Even more polished DEs who have been playing the game for 8+ years don't come into the pros and automatically light it up.

I wouldn't put too much stock in sacks, I see it as more of a product of the line rather than the individual player. I seem to remember quite a few sacks that Avril was credited with when it was Suh, Fairley, Williams, etc. who made it possible. Being a disruptive force in the backfield isn't always going to show up in the stat sheet (especially with the simplistic stats that the NFL actually records).

Fair points.

His sack numbers arent as high also because he didnt replace Avril at LDE he replaced KVB at RDE. So he is going up against the better lts in the game every week. He has been disruptive but the numbers just havent been there which shows this team has been struggling. The qbs are being rushed and dont have a lot of time but without smarter and sneakier blitzing we are just wasting our time. Young has surprised me with how well he has played but I wish he was still more consistent.

We had 40 QB hits and 193 hurries in 2011 in 16 games. We are on pace to shatter both in 2013 with 31 QB hits and 109 hurries in 8 games in 2013.

Only thing not there is the sacks with 13. Overall Pressure is better than 2011.

Not good enough LKP. Hurries have not saved the Lions from getting destroyed by opposing qbs. Making Dayton look like a surgeon out there, fucking pathetic

we either need to produce quicker pressure and sacks or play better on the outside. This defense still is pretty mediocre and gives up way to many big plays. Doesn't get enough turnovers and kind of more hopes the offense makes mistakes instead of forcing them. If Suh doesn't make plays upfront it seems no one else does. I am pretty shocked how ineffective Fairley has been since he blew up in week 1. Suh has been incredible but nobody else has stepped up. Like I already said Young has looked ok but still to inconsistent. Ansah is young and has made some splash plays and flashed the talent but not consistently making plays. Although that ankle has bugged him for a bit now. I hope they step up at the right time.

Yes they have. Romo was less than 50%, Rodgers had 1 TD and was stiffled and held to FGs, Palmer did not have a good day actually, Cutler 3 picks, RG3 nothing until garbage time, Ponder sucked. Hurries were enough. 29% on 3rd and down and 13 turnovers forced , 85 QB rating only.

Did you even watch the games. Only Dalton had a big day. 1 out of 8 games. 2 big plays against the Cowboys thanks to the secondary, one on a quick slant (not the Dline fault).

Judging that our D-line is mainly stout at the DT position it's not surprising that we don't have many sacks and instead lots of hurries. DT's rarely get sacks..For one it's more congested where they rush the passer..also they are running right into the vision of the quarterback whereas DE's usually the QB has no idea they are there. Suh and Fairley were in the top 5 in sacks at the DT position last year. The sacks DO need to increase..but, they have been disruptive..I know they have at least caused 4-5 interceptions this year. And they are definitely a reason why we are one of the best 3rd down defenses in the nfl.

We are actually second in the nfl in third down defense..only behind KC...I'm sure that has nothing to do with the d-line though. Right?

This D is pretty good, they give up the big play from time to time but if they get better play from the back end it could be a top D. Sacks/hurries, both are over rated if your DB's can't stop a 2nd or 3rd and long.

Here's an article on the value of sacks in the NFL

https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2013/02/05/the-overrated-sack/

He brings up some valid points on why sacks aren't all equal, mainly

- Obviously, the more snaps played will eventually lead to a higher sack total
- The time it takes for the rusher to get to the QB can tell a lot about how much that player had an impact, beating your blocker and taking down the QB is quite different than the heart of the D-line forcing the QB out of the pocket to the side of the rushing end, the latter will take more time

I don't know if I would call it overrated, but it's a pretty simplistic stat.

I guess I would equate it to RBI in baseball...the more PAs you have, your RBI total is likely to increase...if more guys get on base, your RBI total is likely to increase...good hitters usually have high RBI totals, poor hitters usually don't have high RBI...however, a high RBI total does not always indicate a good hitter, and likewise, a low RBI total does not always indicate a poor hitter. The stat simply doesn't tell you much and can mislead, using it in conjunction with other stats will give you a better picture.

I don't know if this has much to do with Ziggy, but that's just my input.

I blame Gunther's vanilla defense.

Always a good scapegoat, whether deserved or undeserved.

U know this shit all started when LKP said that sacks were an overrated stat, right?

I never said. Sacks aren't important. Ansah has 3 by the way but hurries/hits can be just as important for many incompletions and turnovers.
